Can I ask for writing tips...? I read one of your tips bfore but can remember it now sobs and also tips on getting audience on ur piece? Do u start with short stories so u could see if ppl like them..? Or just get along with a long one?
Hello! You certainly can. This is a good list of basics from a while ago, and there’s more stuff in my writing advice tag.
I’m not a particularly good person to ask about getting an audience because I’m bad at marketing my stuff. I had about 60-80 (really nice & often mutual) followers for the months & months I spent writing Attack on Titan fic; it wasn’t until I started posting iltwycs that large numbers of people were suddenly interested in my writing. I think they were interested at the time because I was filling a gap in the market. When I started posting iltwycs, there weren’t a lot of long kagehina fics that did what iltwycs was doing so it satisfied an urge people had. That is much harder to do now that the fandom’s grown so much, but you can still use your own feelings to guide you. Ask yourself:
are there pairings you don’t see enough X type of fic of?
what kind of fic would you find satisfying if you found it?
what situations make you laugh/want to read more/etc?
If you’re feeling a lack somewhere, the chances are that others are too. This being said, it also takes a long time to get good enough at writing that the average person will want to keep reading your stuff once the summary lures them in. Write a lot, and try to write for yourself as much as possibly because it may take you a long time to attract an audience. Whether you write long or short doesn’t really matter, but try to only write pieces you think you can finish because it’ll teach you more about storytelling. Don’t let a lack of response make you bitter & try to foster relationships with the people who do respond positively to your work.
