Meet EDWARD VAUGHN. They are THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTY TWO years old and hail from JAMESTOWN, VIRGINIA. Edward embodies the star, FLEGETONTE. They use he/him pronouns and are currently employed as HEAD OF MAGICAL PROTECTION at POLARIS. Their faceclaim is HUGH JACKMAN.
Flegetonte reminds me of a top hat and tails, muskets, shepherd’s pie, horseback riding, historically inaccurate Disney movies, snazzy jackets, a charming smile, turning spy, gold mining, an entire room full of cats, let me entertain you, biting plants.
BIOGRAPHY
Edward Vaughn was supposed to be the person who told you it was one if by land, two if by sea, but there was no hope for him once Paul Revere came into the picture. In reality, Edward’s horse had been acting up that night, so Paulie R gets the poem and the glory. Edward’s basically immortal, though, so there’s something happy about that, he supposes. How does it feel to be rotting in the ground, Revere?
The love of Edward’s life was his daughter, Felicity, who passed in the midst of the American Revolution. Edward mourns her to this day and although she has been gone for centuries, he feels as if he’ll never truly be over her death. Part of him has always wanted to find a necromancer to bring her back to life. He once encountered a soul searcher who could tell him that she was at peace on the other side, but he’s selfish and wants his daughter back. Sue him.
Edward struck it rich in the Yukon gold rush in the 1890s, thanks to his magic that kept him safe from the harsh winter weather and a luck potion. He really has no use for mortal money, but it was fun up in the Klondike to sell big woolen jackets that he spun by hand, not by magic.
Actually, Edward’s been through quite a few trying things in American history. He was born as one of the first witches in Jamestown, and didn’t take that lightly. Right around the time he was born, tens of young women were being burned at the stake and drowned for the crime he was committing by existing. That’s something that has weighed heavily on Edward’s mind, and he’s spent his life trying to uplift others, specifically, those who haven’t had an equal voice throughout history. He served as a guide on the Underground Railroad and frequently made quilts for the homes that served as safe houses. He also spent a lot of time making new clothes and casting protective spells on those who were trying to escape slavery.
Tailoring and sewing are actually Edward’s real gifts, and have nothing to do with magic. He makes them all by hand but does put protective spells over them. For a long while, he worked as a costumer for vaudeville productions, and those were some of the happiest days of his life. Edward spent a lot of years in New York, and worked on Broadway as a dresser. Doing those quick-changes were the most fun. In those years, he went very minimalist with his magic and tried to live like a mortal, as tough as it was.
Edward got the job at Polaris after Celestina cornered him and said she needed someone to help out after there was an attack on a teacher. Up until then, the Ursas had handled most security aspects, but they figured it wouldn’t hurt to have another set of eyes on the property.
Edward has an invisibility cloak. He can and will randomly pop out at you when you’re doing something messed up. His detentions consist of helping him clean the castle and clearing out the litterbox from the Polaris Cat Cafe. He also makes you water the plants that bite.
Edward is in a very ridiculous feud with the owner of Northwest, because the owner won’t give him a job there. His snazzy jackets are the snazziest, don’t forget it.
INCLINATION
Flegetonte, otherwise known as Phlegethon, is the Italian name of the river of fire in Dante’s Inferno. The star chooses between fire and water elements, but those sponsored with Flegetonte tend to be particularly skilled at both elements. Flegetonte has a dark history throughout the ages, and the star itself has been trying to revamp its reputation. The current Flegetonte is ruled by fire, couldn’t be kinder, and specializes in protective spells. With Flegetonte also comes an excellent mind for detail and a sunny disposition.
CONNECTIONS
Attention, Detention: This knucklehead is always getting in trouble and Edward wants to pin them to a chair with magic, but it would be tres cool if they had a heart to heart and Edward saw that this kid isn’t a total asshole. Then they start having a mentor/mentee relationship and Edward makes him snazzy jackets.
Ex Wife: Guys, I’m not gonna lie, this plot is based off of an AmITheAsshole post I saw on Reddit. So basically, they were married at some point, one of them had a super cushy job, and then... the other one got their dream job (whether it was Edward working at Polaris or your lady working somewhere else), but it happened to be in... direct competition with keeping Polaris safe and secure. My glutton for punishment says make her in cahoots with Luc and wanting to take Polaris down for one reason or another. Anyway, whoever took the job knew that they were doing so and putting the other’s life/career in jeopardy, so they broke up.
