Remember the thoughts We'd have as children On the sidewalk, joyful Playing, screaming at the blue sky Mindless about the surroundings Or who we were going to become I try to recount those moments Remember those thoughts Hold onto them tightly A time of laughter and freedom A time when we used to care then I constantly question my own inheritance Retracing my steps Back to a better place Battling loneliness I constantly question Do these scars A valley of torn skin and a river run red Bring pain to my shores Because we've lost The innocence in our eyes Or because we're still living On a second wind Lost and with seemingly endless pain When the soul is long past due
