Over-Under Hillsboro Lighthouse and the Rocks by MyKeyC I've been doing a lot of paddling lately, usually to the inlet to play with my GoPro and get some Over/Under shots of the Lighthouse. This week I had what seemed like a long shot idea, and, in fact, turned out to be just that. I thought, the Pompano Pier is closed, maybe I can get under it and get some shots of the fish and pilings under the pier. I passed a local police officer as I began my paddle and thought I'd ask if he thought I could go under the pier. Without conviction he thought it would be ok. About 2 miles later, after fighting through the heart of the incoming tide, a marine patrol officer came by to chat. When I asked him, half hoping he would no, he said it would be ok as far as he was concerned. Off I went. Just as I got to the pier came the lifeguard's whistle. Damn, no people on the beach but the lifeguards are on duty! "Just doing his job" I thought as I enjoyed the clear water and the extra workout with the paddle. Back to the inlet for more of shots like this one. It's fun and gets me out of the house. Stay safe, we are emerging , come what may. (A real sky in this image but I added some light to the lighthouse. It just didn't look right without it!) https://flic.kr/p/2iZZ9EG
Steeple Jason by MyKeyC Short description: This is an HDR pano of Steeple Jason, an island in the Falklands. With only one guest house, the guests and one guide inhabit the entire island. Longer: Steeple Jason was my favorite of all the islands we visited in the Falklands. Mike Pole-Evans took care of us there. This image is from a hike that Scott Portelli, Marcus Davids and I did up and along the backbone ridge of the island. The island had Gentoo Colonies, a massive Albatross colony, sea lions, lots of Johnny Rooks (Striated Caracara), among other things. Mike made cooked a huge piece of meat and Marcus made "Steeple Jason Stew" with the leftovers. This was where the Gentoo were jumping from the sea and where a rogue wave dumped me in the water and stole my son's GoPro. True adventure. Due to weather we got to stay an extra day at this very special place. https://flic.kr/p/2iMR8LS
Snail Kite Pickup in Sea of Grass by MyKeyC This pretty male Snail Kite dipped into a sea of grass to pick this native snail. What I liked most about the experience was being able to kayak in what looked like a place only an airboat might have navigated. The grass also stabilized the kayak making shooting easier. Thanks to Hurricane Kayaks for providing the ride! https://flic.kr/p/2iKgDw7
Cattle Egret Reflection by MyKeyC The Cattle Egrets are in fine breeding form here in South Florida. This guy is bringing a bit of nesting material home to his mate. https://flic.kr/p/2iJhuup
Green Heron Closeup in Flight by MyKeyC I saw this guy coming at the last minute and managed to get off a couple of shots. Fortunately my exposure was right. Green Heron, aka Little Green, Green-backed or Butorides virescens. https://flic.kr/p/2iBtGGj
