Today’s the day I’m flying back to China. It’s this weird mix of heartache, relief, and worry all tangled together. I can’t even put it into words. Standing in line for check-in with my luggage, I just feel everything and nothing at the same time.
After checking in and dropping off my luggage, I headed to the lounge for a late lunch around 2 PM. There was actually a pretty good variety of food, so I ended up having both a veggie salad and tom yum noodles.
Then I pulled out my laptop and started working while waiting for boarding, snacking as I typed. Crispy fried pumpkin bites and unlimited tomato juice… honestly, that’s all a working adult really needs. It felt strangely comforting to just sit there, get things done, and let the time pass.
Before leaving Thailand, I wrapped up a couple of last-minute things. First, I canceled my extra internet package (*190#). Then I turned on roaming and switched off mobile data right before heading out of the country. Just ticking off the tiny tasks that somehow make the whole ‘leaving’ part feel a little more real.
They served meals on the plane, and the flight attendant told us we could choose between rice with stir-fried fish or chicken noodles. I went with the chicken noodles… only to open the box and find chicken macaroni instead. A tiny surprise, but honestly kind of funny.
