John Wayne by Jean Giraud (Moebius) from Lucky Luke Magazine No. 1, March 1974. The picture depicts Wayne as Sheriff John T. Chance from the film 1959 film Rio Bravo. As in the movie Wayne's Winchester rifle is shown above with the large lever loop which allowed him to flip cock (spin cock) the rifle without hurting his wrist. As far as I remember he doesn't actually do it on screen in this movie but did do it Stagecoach and True Grit.
John Wayne flip cocking, or spin cocking, his Winchester in Stagecoach (above, 1939) and True Grit (below, 1969). The rifle had to be specially modified to allow him to do this and, as far as I know, he is the first person to do it on screen. Fill your hands!
