#882 My parents recently divorced. My stepdad is an emotionally abusive narcissist. My mom, who I love so much, now has to work 7 days a week to put food on the table. My mom got a roommate who destroyed her house and ahe had to pay money to cover the damages. I grew up with a poor single mom and now my mom is going back to being a poor single mom. I feel bad about having fun here at Columbia (in between financial struggles here) while my mom has to struggle at home.

#868 I really want to drop premed but my becoming a doctor is the only hope my family has, and ever will have, of getting out of poverty. My family has given up everything just to make it to this country. It would kill me to disappoint them knowing I've made it this far.

#864 My father just lost his job, we were already living below the poverty line before. How am I supposed to go to classes and do my work when I know when I know that if I was home I could be working and helping out?
