Flipped - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
Mal’s POV
“Yeah,” he grinned like a goof. “Tara let me crash in her bed.”
“And she crashed....?”
“In the same bed.” He blushed as he looked down at his hands. A squealing noise started deep within me and made it’s way up so it was coming out from behind my wide-mouthed grin. “It’s not what you think!”
“It is what I think,” I squealed, jumping over to the kettle. “You or T want a cup?”
“Yeah, erm, both please?” It was so cute, he couldn’t stop smiling to himself.
We both waited for the kettle to boil so I asked the question I only wanted to know. “Would Tara be just a one night thing or do you proper genuinely like her?” He didn’t even need to think about his answer and from his facial expression, I didn’t need to hear a verbal reply. “Just give her a bit of time. She’s not had any real relationships for a while and she finds it hard to trust guys.”
“Why?”
“You should hear the answer from her.” The kettle flicked to say that it had boiled and I made three cups of tea and a cup of coffee for Tara. “If she trusts you, she’ll tell you,” I added as I carried mine and Nath’s cups back to my room.
“Thank you,” is all I heard just before I opened the door to my room. I looked to T’s door and in the slight crack of it, I saw her smiling at me, bowing her head like the Chinese fans do to show their gratitude. I mouthed a quick ‘no problem’ before rushing into my room as I heard Jay coming out of the kitchen.
Shawn’s POV
I had to tell the girls at some point, didn’t I? I mean, a secret like this couldn’t be kept forever, especially when I bring someone home and they don’t expect it.
Yes, I was bi-sexual, maybe even just homosexual. My family know and that is it. No previous boyfriends, no friends from home and definitely not the girls. Jeez, if the girls knew from the start, they would not have been this comfortable with me. But then again, if I reveal everything now, they might be awkward around me. The scenario in my head had different reactions for all the girls; Tara wouldn’t give two shits, Mal would be a little awkward but then get a text from Nathan and forget all about it, Jess would probably dislike me for a few days because I haven’t been completely honest but would get over it, and that leaves Nichole. Nichole was my worst nightmare; I honestly thought she’d be the one to avoid me unless she completely needed to. Nic I’ve been closest to and I know she’d be uncomfortable and be so disappointed in me. I knew she’d be the one I tell first. Well, I mean, I’ve hinted to them all that I like girls but they’ve never taken it seriously, I don’t think.
“Nic,” I said, going into her bedroom. She was curled up under the covers still and grumbled a reply to me. “Nic, I need to speak to you.” She snapped herself upright, sitting so she was completely facing me.
Our living situation was unlike the others; Jess was in her own flat but was pretty much living at Harry’s most of the time and Mal and Tara had their flat together. Nic and I had two separate flats but there was a staircase that linked them. Where the staircase reached the ceiling of my flat, there was a trap door which Nic always left open. Neither of us had a regular guy come so we didn’t think it necessary to keep it closed and locked. It was only locked when we went away.
“What’s up?” Nic asked, rubbing her eyes delicately and shoving her hair out of her face. She tried to tie it up into one of those fashionable messy buns you see all the hipster teenagers wearing but it just ended up as a small lump on hair on top her head, the thinness of her hair leaving it without volume. Not many people knew this about Nic, but her hair wasn’t as volumised as everyone thought – her hair was thick because of the wondrous invention of hair extensions. Nic looked up to me. “Shawn, babe, what’s up? You look worried.”
“I am worried,” I mumbled, looking down at my feet. “I’ve kept something secret from you and the rest of the girls and I’m now starting to realise how stupid it’s been.”
“What?” Nic asked. She climbed out of bed and stood in front of me.
“Okay, so I thought I’d tell you first because you’re pretty much my best friend out of the five of us and as we kinda live together, I thought you should know before the other girls but ....” Okay so this is where everything comes out and I see how much she hates me for keeping something secret. “I’m not who you think I am.”
“You’re part of the Avengers, aren’t you?!”
“Nic,” I laughed. She couldn’t be serious about much. “Not in that way. I mean, I’m not straight.”
Nic went silent. My whole world came to a stop and after what seemed like half an hour, Nic started to speed time back up by looking back at me. “Explains a bit,” she commented. I pulled a confused face at her. What was she talking about? “Well, you never seem to like get on anyone when we’re out. And us lot aren’t exactly celibate.”
“Thank you,” I mumbled gratefully as she opened her arms to me. “Now I just gotta hope the others take it the same.”
“Babe, they will.”
I giggled and knew she wasn’t joking. They would be fine when I plucked up the courage.

Jess’s POV

Competition time!
“Right, so guys,” I said while we were broadcasting the twitcam. “You have got ten minutes to go over to the website and sign up to the competition or to log in if you’re already signed up. Meanwhile, while you’re all getting your fingertips warmed up, Shawn has something she’d like to announce to you all.”
Shawn’s POV
Yes. After telling the girls that I was batting for both teams, we all decided it was best that we announce it to the fans. They hated when we didn’t tell them stuff. As soon as I told them, Tara jumped on top of me and wanted to see if I was actually into girls, Mallory couldn’t care less what sexuality I was, and Jess was just happy that I could trust them all to tell them.
“Hey, everybody,” I grinned as Jess turned the laptop to face me more. “I wanted to start this off with a big, show-off speech but have now last-second decided against it. But, sexuality isn’t something that defines you as a person, it is just a personal preference and I told the girls in the past week that I am bi-sexual. As you are our fans and we know how much you hate being left in the dark, we thought that you guys should know. This has been a public service announcement. Thank you.” I turned the laptop back to Jess, Mal and Nic.
Jess’s POV
“Right, so, is the website ready for the competition to start?” Nic asked, looking over to our IT guy who set up all of it. He nodded at her, giving her a thumbs up too. “So, let’s get this shit started!”
“Nichole!” Jayne laughed. “Language.”
“Sorry,” Nic grinned.
“So, shall we get the first question up?” I asked, facing the webcam on top of the laptop. “You will have ten seconds to answer so make your decision quick and correct and you will have a higher chance of winning the prize.”
“Yes,” Tara cut in. “The quicker you answer, the more points you get. Obvs if you use Google, it’ll take you longer and it’s not reliable so you’ll take longer with possibly the wrong answer.”
“Use Google if it’s a last resort!” Mal shouted from the other side of the room, checking her phone as it was on charge from a different port.
“Mallory Michelson! Don’t encourage cheating!” Jayne shouted in whispers.
“Why not? Google helped me through coursework. And Wikipedia. And other search engines and factual websites.” All of us giggled at Mallory’s response.
“First question,” Jayne smiled, shaking her head at us.
“Yes,” I giggled. “First question is .... how long were we auditioning for before we were put together as our five-piece?”
