Someone of interest: Cathrine Westergaard
I hate to say that i'm always looking for something or someone to be a source of inspiration because when I do look, I come up with nothing but when I just live, something or someone always falls right into my lap.
This time the source i'm sharing with you is a (someone) by the name of Cathrine Westergaard. First take a look at some of her fashion/pop/art photographs that initially caught my eye.
With photography being extremely popular now, almost coming off as just a pick me up gig for some. You have typical shoots with the pretty girl in a somewhat regular surrounding & you're done. At least thats the general idea a lot of people have about photography now. Some say the art of it all is be extracted from it day by day thanks to social media. With all the debating going on about what everybody considers true art in photography its good to see someone like Cathrine taking her images to the next level, where you're not just getting a photo of someone at a location with great makeup & styling but the added effects that bring more life & almost theatrical futuristic type feel to the photo.
In a recent interview she said: "I started to study art in the churches, Michelangelo, the Renaissance. I realized you may hate being an artist and it is the most painful thing to do, but if you are, it will haunt you until you're doing it. That was essentially how I realized, fuck it, this is who I am."
I thought that was gold.
Cathrine Westergaard is a photographer/director from New York thats been through being rich, being in the struggle, watching her mom make something out of nothing while her father sat idle battling the stress of failure. Herself falling into depression & starving herself. Through all of that she still let her art be her outlet & eventually was recognized for it.
