ANYWAYS today's question: do you have or want to have any merch connected to your story? What would be most fun? A plushie of MC or maybe a hoodie with some characteristic logo? Or maybe something completely different?

I don't think I want to have any merch but IF i was to make it I think I would want to make keychains and buttons with art and symbles and logos, that kind of stuff. I think it's charming

The world got to see your story and oops video essayist discovered it. What type of essay are they making? Is it a deep dive? Is it a rant about “controversial” parts? Is it about how the story got popular? Taking apart every single sentence? What are they focusing on?

Happy STS!! And what a question, omg. I think I could definitely get called out on the glorification of violence (in Memento Vivere, a lot of people die, and pretty horribly, but it’s a horror-thriller so I dunno what people expected) or alternately “bad representation” because my gay people are evil gay people and so forth. It would be nice if someone picked up on all the hints I’m dropping about people’s characters, especially as it’s a novella in which most people are hiding secrets we get to find out pretty soon before they die, so a deep dive or characters would be fun!

hihi! happy very late storyteller saturday (perhaps even a storyteller sunday :o)

i think with eidolon vetch theres a couple options for things to focus on:

a deep dive into the worldbuilding/history of the setting (Yes i have thought about the past of the story more than the actual story's plot. it's a problem) especially the traditions and fashion!

2. going into the trans text/subtext (because i accidentally made a character who is trans also have a very trans arc separate to his transness, which is silly.)

3. just. going through and breaking down the tropes used surrounding gentleman thieves and detectives. i'd love a multiple hour video essay comparing eidolon vetch to its influences because it is nothing without my love of gentleman thief and detective media!

Hi! Happy Second Day of STS! Let's talk about makeup. Do your characters wear makeup? What's their opinion on it? Does makeup carry any significance for the characters and/or people around them? Feel free to yap about anything other about makeup too! :D

Unfortunately, because I do not wear makeup, I do not use it for characters very often because the subtleties of it are lost on me

HOWEVER

There is one notable exception to this, and that is Dr. Barbara Agau. She is always described as perfect in appearance and sporting bright red lipstick. It features in a lot of the things I’ve made for her over the years!

This is because she cares an extraordinary amount for image; her whole career is delicately balanced on the idea that her unethical human science experiments are necessary to save the planet. So controlling her appearance to manipulate her positive public image helps enormously.

As far as food goes I don't really build much XD but I can tell you that Ola fills himself with soup and breath in the coldest days back at his home (which ain't many). When he starts travelling with the main gang he likes making everybody some of them, but his favorite favorite hot drink is the one Leo makes to himself that he got a sip of, once.

Wen Ming is a big tea girl. Her favorite is lemon with anise and her breath smells like it lol. Totsuka isn't picky, she drinks anything her friends make her, or warm milk if that's all there is (as long as there is some nice food to chew on). Leo likes masala chai a lot (shhh i totally didn't just google that one) and Chara likes tomato broath. If he was in a modern day au his fav drink would be creamy hot chocolate tho

Hi! Happy Second Day of STS! Do you have any self-interests or just generally OCs similar to you (either physically or in personality)? Why/why not?

I think every OC has a little bit of their author in them. Some are harder to identify which bits than others, while some are easier.

It’s easier to identify with my earlier characters, probably just because that’s how writing journeys work. Beth was named after me, it doesn’t get closer than that.

But I think most of mine share more internal thing with me than external. I don’t have ocs with pink hair, or glasses. Surprisingly, I don’t have any with an interest in space or a fondness for lemon sweets. I could slot these traits into almost anybody, but it’s not really what’s… important? To me about characters?

I’m much more interested in traits. Who is determined, who is anxious, who is stubborn, organized, angry, who has secrets or goals or burdens they carry. I don’t primarily define my characters based off of interests or physicality; that stuff comes after personality and role in the story. And since their facets of personality that I choose to emphasize are natural facts of any personality, I think I can identify with all of them.

Thus, they’re all similar to me.
