Chennai book fair dedicated to flood victims
Chennai: The draw of lots for stalls at the Chennai Pongal book fair took place today at the venue in Royapettah YMCA grounds and the poster for the festival was also released during the occasion.
The fair, being organised by the Tamilnadu Virpanai Membattu Kuzhumam, will begin 13 January at 6 pm and will be open till 24 January. Former Governor of West Bengal Gopal Krishna Gandhi will inaugurate the fair with Justice (retd) K Chandru presiding.
Addressing mediapersons, R S Shanmugam, one of the organisers, said a total of 250 stalls will be set up in the fair. Special arrangements are made to have hi-tech toilets, ample walking space, resting space for senior citizens and special viewing spots for the differently-abled.
The annual Pongal book fair will be held as a tribute to the flood Donations, said the organisers. The entry fee of Rs 5 each will be donated to the Chief Minister’s flood relief fund.
Apart from the book release and speeches at the open air stadium, individual stalls will be given permission to have their own book release functions within the stall which will add to the festival mood, he said.
