Having endured the consequences of divine mortality and the treachery of ambitious men, those submerged beneath the waters of the Flood found within themselves yet another trial: having drowned, their own bodies became subject to the whims of cursed tides and corruption. In a panic for dignity and a struggle to preserve themselves the folk beneath the Flood turned to any means. Masks previously belonging only to celebration or ceremony proliferated in the streets, and those without became creative; soon, it was rarer to see an unmasked face than one concealed. Just as well! Water does terrible things to a dead body.
