1997/1998 floppy build a bears
Took my frog to a pond.
This may be my last update on the Floppy Frog for a while because I do believe it reached it's final stage. I only started running it 7 days ago. Now there is a secret stage, but I think I may have experienced that already? I'll explain in a bit.
So I've noticed that every time the frog evolved, it did so immediately after eating. So it kind of guarantees that it won't grow without you getting to see it, which is actually a pretty nice change.
It evolved this morning when I was doing my usual "raise it's score up to 100" routine.... and then it evolved again... it turned into a woman in a dress wearing a crown, I'm assuming a princess... she stayed on my screen for a while until I attempted to feed her, then she changed back... I think this is a reference? But I thought the story was the Frog Prince, not the Frog Princess...? Weird. But i'm actually glad it turned back. I do not care for humanoid virtual pets and I draw the line at literal humans.
One more thing to note... one of it's minigames in the final stage is literally just frogger. Even it's sprite looks like classic frogger. The main difference is that you can take several hits from the cars, and there is no section after the cars where you have to jump on moving logs or turtles. You just gotta make it to the water... always thought it was weird that Frogger dies in the water... the second mini game has the frog inflate itself and descend down between two trees, trying to dodge the branches... it actually reminds me a lot of level 2 from Battletoads in Battlemaniacs and I wonder if that's a coincidence...
So all the references in this V-pet include
Yoshi ( uses his tongue lash sound byte )
Frogger
BattleToads
The Frog Prince/Princess and the Frog??
The WB frog ( it grabs a cane and top hat from time to time )
maybe Sanrio's Keroppi, idk the designs on the side kinda look like him
So far... this is the best Gigapet I've ever played with, but i've only played with three Gigapets... four, if we count the digital doggy I had when I was a child. I have a vintage floppy frog but it's in rough shape, pixels are barely visible, no sound, and I can't figure out how the minigame works. So i'm happy with this replacement.
This came today. I have a vacation to get to tomorrow, otherwise i'd probably consider running this thing. But i'm pretty happy about this. Always wanted a V-pet based on frogs, I adore froggies. They were like the first animal I was ever obsessed with.
On my way to work, my Floppy Frog changed to it's next stage of evolution. It's now got little front legs... even though that's not quite how it works with real tadpoles.
Unfortunately, the change caught me off guard, his minigame changed, and the temperature mechanic changed into the scolding icon. I could not slow down on my way to work to figure it out. Sadly, no pause function. You can make it nap, but it's going to wake up when it wants to wake up, which could be very shortly after you put it down, so I had a lot of catching up to do after work. I hope this won't keep me from reaching the final stage of it's life because it's health drops too low when i'm working. I know these are sold with kids toys ( and are mercifully priced like one ) but I think Top Secret Toys knows that the bulk of their audience are former 90's kids who are now adults with busy lives, they should really consider adding a pause function.
The new froglet actually hops in and out of the water, and you can actually get different food options and a different mini game depending on if it's in the water or on dry land. That's a pretty neat detail. I actually really like stage 2's under water mini game, have not yet figured out the dry land minigame yet.
So, day 3 and I'm very impressed with the Floppy Frog so far. Could be my new favorite Giga Pet, though I've only played with three of the modern ones so far and I hated the pixie.
Well lookie here, looks like they're finally bringing back the Floppy Frog Gigapet. Slated for a springe 2023 release.
I was obsessed with frogs and toads as a child. Before Tamagotchis, I would always be on the hunt for amphibians in my grandmas back yard. My love for critters began with frogs. So I always wanted a floppy frog, but before the advent of online shopping, I could only ever find dog and cat related virtual pets, and if you're gonna get a fake pet why would you get a dog or a cat, that's like picking a human in a fantasy role playing game.
I got a vintage one from E-bay earlier this year but the sound didn't work, the pixels were super faded, and the buttons barely worked, so I'm happy to see this and will be keeping my eyes out for one next year.
I've been having bad depression. Trying to outline my novel and get back into cleaning again.
Poor little guy. I had to decommission all my Tamas for a bit..
GigaPets Pixie launched the Gigapets Cinematic Universe, and Floppy Frog is the first Avengers.
The troll appeared in the Pixie as part of the fishing mini game, and that was the first crossover. You could count the Star Cat and Compu-Kitty as the second since it's a new pet, with the original pet included.
With Floppy Frog though, i've seen the pixie, the puppy, Star Cat, tech-T-Rex, the Virtual Unicorn, and the original Floppy Frog making cameos in the idle animations and mini games.
I like that little bit of connectivity.
