What It’s Like To Be A Girl. #flower . Trigger warning: this post addresses sexual assault. This piece of writing is in no way supposed to be generalising the behaviour of boys. Instead, it is a generalisation of the experiences of girls at the hands of a small amount of boys. Unfortunately, these speak the loudest although they are the minority. From conversations with girls it is very clear that sexual assault is something we all (or most) of us have some experience with. I think it’s often brushed under the carpet due to this being our norm, which is why I wanted to write about it. This shouldn’t be the norm. We shouldn’t be scared, that is simply unfair. Although it saddens me that everyone I’ve already shown this to can relate, it does highlight the realness and the volume of this issue. Of course, I’m certain some girls haven’t experienced sexual assault before. Just as some boy have experienced it. It is in no way bound by gender. However, being a woman myself is why this writing is focused on a women’s experience, as it is based on mine and my fellow female friends.
