We found a very pretty praying mantis! It's an orchid-blossom mantis or more specifically a pink orchid mantis.

In one of the photos, the mantis reminded us of ink and so we made it into him and it looks so goofy, we love it!

Also we're working on an pink orchid mantis inspired outfit for ink so also expect that soon!

And the second model is finished at last!!! This was quite an effort, as I'm sure you saw if you were keeping up on the Tumblr. In order to make the pupils and eyelashes wrap properly over pyramid-shaped eyes, I had to contrive a VERY unconventional rig with lots of parts, and then lots of workarounds to make those parts all work nicely together. This was the third try on making a rig for her eyes, too!!! But at last it is DONE!!!

Here is the model that caused me so much trouble. Bicoris, the orchid mantis, who is as painful to deal with in person as she is to model.

Currently at work on the third and final mantis model, who had some odd eye rigging to figure out himself (though, thankfully, not a fraction as hard as the last). He should be done sometime next week, after which only a minor character model and a background model remain. Then, the week after I'm just getting right to work on staging. Hopefully that'll only take two weeks, and then another week on finalizing backgrounds. After that, all of November for animation, and then a final week for Gregorsa's stuff and sound effects. Still looking like an early December release! Until next time!!

Day 169#: Nigerian Flower Mantis

Today's animal of the day is the Nigerian Flower Mantis (Chloroharpax modesta)!

Although they are called the Nigerian flower mantis, this insect can be found across West Africa, such as in Cameroon, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, the Ivory Coast, and the Republic of the Congo. This species is the only member of the genus Chloroharpax and is a bright green color to help blend in with its surroundings when stalking prey. Females also have a pair of yellow eyespots on their wings that help to confuse predators. Although they are only a little over an inch long, these mantises are formidable predators and can take down prey much larger than themselves.

I wanted to redraw this one image I saw as Dot and my bugs life OCs, Hedra and Lior!! Thought it fit them so well!!

Hedra is the daughter of Hopper, and Lior is the son of Manny and Gypsy!! Them and Dot are besties 🪷🦋 I will eventually draw more and post about them haha...
