Well, our 30 x 30 Challenge has come to an end. Spending at least 30 minutes in nature for 30 days during May has been an enjoyable exercise, one that my daughter and I have experienced together.
Through this challenge we’ve witnessed some scorching sun producing golden light, revealing nature’s depth of colour and pattern - beautiful. Initially we were lounging deep into balmy evenings wearing tees, shorts and flip-flops but those climes gave way to many continuous days and nights of grey, driving rain. Wet but definitely not dispirited we continued to brave the elements and get our daily fix of nature. A big reason for coming to live in Canada was to experience the “Great Outdoors” opportunities that are here in abundance – a little (and I mean a shed load!) of rain not likely to put us off. Hoods and boots became necessary to venture outdoors where lush vegetation and the fusion of greens that comprise Vancouver’s North Shore rainforest continued to be enjoyed and be our playground.
Credit to my little treehugger, muddy buddy, flower picker, crab shell washer, snail spotter, puddle jumper, rock hopper, shadow chaser, photo snapper of a daughter for joining me on this mini outdoor adventure, and as WildIsle comments after completing his own nature challenge “We’ll just have to rebrand this thing the 30 x 30+ and keep it rolling.”
Nature. Year on year I think more and more about it. Year on year I feel it more and more. I love being in nature’s company. When I’m with Her I breathe better, I see better, I reason better. It’s natural. She is constantly teaching for those that want to listen. Do yourself a favour and commit some time to Her and see what a difference She can make.
Cheers
Luke
