I was walking along the street, my head buried in my phone when I got a whiff of these beauties. Gardenias. Such an amazing, full but not overpowering scent that made me pause and wonder what it was. So busy in what I was doing I'd missed sight of them completely. Though and obvious lesson of take time to smell the 'roses' is, it actually made me think of something else. At work we often discourage people from gardenia plants because they lack longevity and can be very temperamental. We push plants are hardier They'll live longer we say. It makes business sense, but leaves little room for true enjoyment. If all you want is the smell and velvet textured petals of a gardenia no matter how long another plant lasts it will never bring you that same joy. Though something is not forever it can still be worthwhile. I've been trying to better appreciate the present and live more in the now and this was *exactly* the example of how amazing that can be that I needed. . #musings #flowergirl #flowernerd #gardenia #nyc (at Midtown Manhattan)
