They practically explode open and even as they die, they throw their petals wide, like they're waiting for you to step into their embrace. I love the markings inside at the base of the petals and the myriad colors are just amazing! I was nominated by @muffinandboogs and today, I nominate @renderingofcosmos. I miss dogwoods so much. I grew up among these trees, but I haven't really seen any here in Belgium.... They're such a signal of springtime to me! Did you know that the bark has medicinal properties because it's rich in tannins? Also, the white 'flowers' are actually bracts, while the actual flowers are the little knobby bits in the center. They're also #bisexual! P.S. I was nominated by @muffinandboogs and today, I nominate my Mom (who isn't on here, but I'll tag her on Facebook). I feel like if you live in Belgium, then you're almost required to love poppies. I mean #InFlandersFields, anybody? They grow wild EVERYWHERE over here. Once I see them, I know summer isn't far behind. They come in a rainbow of colors and even their seed pods are adorable (unfortunately I couldn't find any pics of those on my phone). I got a bunch of seed pods for the deep pink with purple centers (they were growing wild along a fence line) and have scattered seeds in nearly every flowerbed we have this year in the hopes they'll sprout up and maybe even bloom this year or next. #fingerscrossed #floralinspiration #flowershare #spring #flowers #springflowers #poppies https://www.instagram.com/p/CN8FlXon-5y/?igshid=18c1abysqaqaj

It's tiny and so pretty.
