Two at once! Into rare-pair fluff we go!
Platonic: Yes.
Queer-Platonic: Yes
Romantic: Maybe.
First off, I am very picky about Hunk ships. For him and Pidge, I see more of a platonic thing going on. With more development, I can see something romantic. Definitely with more development on Hunk as a character. The food-based thing is a lovehate thing for me because I am a foodie myself and I hate seeing him reduced to that. But I love a character with a passion for cooking and flavor profiles. I don’t get that vibe from Pidge. We really haven’t seen her eat. Not to say she doesn’t, but the most we have is liking peanut butter. Being a foodie is a huge part of Hunk’s identity and he would need a partner who could match that.
As for the technology side of things, they are compatible. Hunk is closer to mechanical engineering and math while Pidge is software and hardware engineering. Definitely two separate areas of science, but with plenty of overlap (math and logic).
I need to see more interactions between them. There is a definite bond with Venomous Crystal episode and Escape from Beta Traz episode. Not denying that at all. I need more development on Hunk’s character before making decisions.
But Hunk is definitely the ultimate chill kinda guy. Lance, Keith, and Pidge all share a straight to go off the wall at times and need someone to help ground them. Hunk is perfect for that. As seen with the Arusian party, he can break the tension easily by making stoic Keith laugh.
Pidge is another one I need development on besides technology. I can identify with her on a technophile perspective on top of being in the STEM field myself (I’m actually a software engineer). She is compatible with Keith when it comes to combat. She can bro out with Lance. She can geek out with Coran or Hunk. She really needs to fucking apologize to Allura. I want to see a more vulnerable with Hunk, and I’m not seeing that. Her most emotional moments have been with Shiro. To me, she comes off as someone who has a hard time showing her true feelings to just anyone. Hunk has the potential to break down those walls. He’s comfort incarnate.
