okie dokie it seems like a lot of graphic-makers in the wt fandom don’t know how to make smooth transparent renders and imo they’re really simple, so i thought i’d share how i do it by rendering a cute yuma~

I use GIMP, which is like open source Photoshop, and I’m not sure that Ps has the ability to do this..? assuming you already know the basics of cutting out with the lasso tool and using layer masks and such, the process goes like this:

- create a colored layer under the panel

- Layer->Transparency->Color to Alpha, make sure the color is set to pure white, then click OK 

- use the lasso tool & layer masks to carefully cut out where you want to cap

- make any other edits necessary (in this case, filling in the spot obscured by yuma’s speech bubble

- merge the layer masks down and copy the layer (i like to keep a backup)

- with the top copy selected: Layer->Transparency->Threshold Alpha (i usually go for 123-127, higher number = cleaner cap, but also more gaps to fill in

- lock layer, fill with white, unlock

- check for any gaps in the outline and fill them in with a 1px solid pen

- use the magic wand tool to select the area outside of the outline, invert selection, fill with white

- drag below original copy of layer

- u did it!!!

thats it!! it’s really easy once you get the hang of it :p i actually discovered this method by total accident, and there don’t seem to be any guides on this sort of thing so i thought a process video might be fun!
