“Hey, guys.” I smiled, as I unbuckled my seat and walked out of the hydro-loop.

They all greeted me, as I walked in. “What are you doing here?” Leo asked as they all three of them walked over to me.

I shrug, “Just wanted to drop by, surprise everyone.”

“Well, color me surprised.” Bree said and we exchanged a hug.

“Well, you can color me blue. I think it really goes with my complexion.” Adam said, looking into an imaginary mirror. I shook my head and hugged both him and Leo.

“Where’s Chase?”

“Not sure, said he had something big to show us.” I heard as we all walked away from the hydro-loop.

“Well, I know it’s not his height.” Adam said, walking over to us after grabbing a water from the bar table.

“Guys, I’m ready to show you what I’ve been working on.” Chase stated, and I revealed myself from behind in Adam, Bree and Leo.

“Got room for one more?”

“(Y/N).” He smiled wide and hugged me tight. “What are you doing here? Thought you’d be on the main land for a couple more days.”

“I couldn’t wait, and had to cut my trip short. So, what was that thing you were showing them?”

“Oh, I.. uh..” He said stumbling over his words, “It’s in our sleeping quarters, but I need to put the finishing touches on everything.”

“I thought it was done already?”

“It is, just want to make sure it’s perfect.” He said and ran into the training room.

“Was that weird to you guys?”

“Not from how he acts normally, I’d say that was pretty normal.” Leo responded and the rest nodded their heads in agreement.

We all sat down in the cafeteria area, and ate a light snack. “Hey, don’t you guys think he should be done with the finishing touches, on what he is working on?”

“Yeah, it’s been a long time.”

“That’s how Chase always is, give him around 2-3 business days.”

“I don’t have time to wait.”

“Hey, wait, wait. Maybe give him a couple more minutes. You know how he needs to work alone.” Bree said holding me back.

“Well, I can help him out. He seems to like when I do that.” I brushed past Bree and Leo quickly ran up to stand in front of me.

“Bree, come on! I need to check on him.”

“Bree is right, (Y/N). He told us himself that he needs peace and quiet.”

“Well, I can still check in and see if he needs anything.”

I walk past them again, this time Adam stands in my way. “Adam, don’t even try it. Try me, and you won’t get anymore food from the main land.”

I stated and Adam stepped back and they look at him, like he was crazy. “I’m sorry guys, she drives a hard bargain.”

I finally make my way to the room where they all had their sleeping capsules. “Chase, do you need help— Woah..”

I come into the room and looked around. It had been decked out with streamers and confetti littering the floor. Along with everything else you’d see at a party.

It was just so amazing and incredible.

“Guys! You weren’t supposed to let her see yet.”

“Sorry, but she threatened me with food. And you know how important it is to me.” Adam replied and went to sit on the couch.

“Chase, what’s all this for?”

“It was supposed to be a surprise, but it’s for you. All of it is.”

“Even the cake?” I said pointed over to the cake that Adam and Leo were devouring.

“Yes, even the— Adam! Leo!”

“Hey, we deserve a reward after helping you out today.” Leo said, and they continued to eat the cake.

I shake my head with a laugh and noticed that Chase looked sorta down. “Hey, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing, it’s just… I wanted this to be surprise. And it’s all coming apart.”

“No, it’s not.” I said, and as I say that the streamers that were tapped to the sleeping capsules started to lose its stick and the ‘happy birthday’ banner had fell to the floor.

“See?”

“Chase. It’s okay. It doesn’t matter, how many streamers fall or if my cake is half eaten.” I started as I took his face in my hands and looked him in the eyes. “It’s the thought that counts and this was very thoughtful of you. Thank you so much.”

I reassured him and he began to smile a little and it made me smile seeing him do it. I let my hands drop and he took my head in his hands and placed a kiss to my forehead.

“I’m glad you enjoyed it. Let’s enjoy it while we can shall we?” He held his arm out, and I looped my arm around his.

“We shall.”

After what happened the other day, I had stayed locked and huddled up in my room. Dings that turned to vibrants after I silenced my phone.

Message after message. Call after call. I couldn’t hear it any longer.

Thoughts and ideas running and racing through my head.

‘Did I overreact??’

‘Should I respond to him? Visit him maybe?’

‘No! I had every right to react that way!’

‘Or was I..?’

All these thoughts kept bouncing against the inner lining of my head, until I heard a knock at the door. All my thoughts had calmed themselves, as I got up and opened the door a bit.

“Yeah?”

“Hey, sorry to bother, but you’ve been in here for a while. Do you wanna talk?” My mom offered.

“No, I’m okay.”

“You sure?” She asked and I nodded my head ‘yes,’ in confirmation. Getting the gist she told me that she’d be out running errands, and to call if need be.

After she left I closed and locked the door behind her and let out a breath, I didn’t know I was holding in.

I trudged up the stairs and was going to crawl into bed when I heard, something repeatedly hitting the window pane.

My brows furrow in confusion, I held my position and listened. Waiting to see if it would continue, and that it did. Like little pebbles hitting the glass almost.

After it wouldn’t stop I stood up and abruptly opened my window to see what it was, only for me to get hit in the forehead with a pebble.

“Ow!”

Jaspers face went wide, and shoved the pebbles into Charlotte’s hands. “That was Char!” Jasper exclaimed, as she gave him a look.

“No, it wasn’t!” She replied and they both started to bicker back and forth.

“Hey! Can you guys just stop? If that’s what you guys came here to do, then you wasted your time and mine.” I said, before pulling my head from out the window.

“Wait! Wait! We really need to talk to you.”

I huffed and sighed, “What about?”

“You weren’t returning our calls.” Jasper said.

“My phone is dead.” I said, and he proceeded to shake his head and call my phone. I purposely, hit the hang up button. “Hey!”

“My finger slipped. Is that all you had to say?”

“No! We really want you to know how sorry Henry is.” Charlotte said, and I shook my head in response, not wanting to hear her.

Yeah, Henry did forgot about our one year, it hurt. Bad. But I still love him, with every fiber of my being, and not talking to him or seeing everyday is hurting me. If not more than him even forgetting about the anniversary.

“Please, just.. Come to the Man-Cave. Only if you want to.”

“If she wants? We need her to come, or Henry will-” Char having enough hit his shoulder.

“What’s at the Man-Cave?” I asked. “Just stop by when you’re ready. It’ll all make sense later.” She said they finally left. I closed my window and turned around examining my entire room.

Without knowing what else to do I dialed my mom’s phone, and called her.

“(Y/N)? What’s wrong, honey?”

“I just.. I need your advice.”

Once I explained what happened to my mom, she helped me with deciding on what to do, and I was going to visit the Man-Cave. I took a shower and washed my face, wanting to look nice.

After changing, I started my walk to Junk N’ Stuff to see what they had in store for me at the Man-Cave.

I looked at the store to see that it had a closed sign on it, which surprised me cause it was really early in the day for it to close.

I walked into the store with confusion written all over my face, and let the door close behind me. I proceeded to walk to the back of the store and get into the elevator.

I closed my eyes tight and held onto the railing of the elevator trying not to fall on the ground like I did before.

Surprisingly the second time around on the elevator, I didn’t fall, but my knees did buckle a little, upon reaching the ground floor.

I’ll take that over brushed bones any day.

I stepped out of the elevator and looked around the lights were dimmed no one was in the Man Cave, it looked like.

“Hello? Hellllo?” I called out, wanting to see if anybody was home, but I sighed and huffed upon getting no reply back. I turned on my heel ready to leave.

“Wait!” Henry replied at the top of the stairs, before jogging down them.

“Henry, what is all this? What happened to the lights? Did Ray forget to pay the light bill?”

“No!” He replied before quickly adding, “Maybe.. Okay, wait. Please don’t leave, I have something to show you.”

“Henry..” I started, but he looked at me with pleading eyes and I couldn’t say ‘no,’ “Fine, I’ll stay.”

He smiled then told me to sit down at the round table, I listened and sat down, watching Henry take the seat in front of me.

He took a bell out of his pocket and rung it, and someone came out dressed up in suit and tie, that person being Jasper.

“Jasper? What are you doing?”

“I am to..uh.. Henry, what am I here for again?” He asked, in a hushed voice, but still loud enough for me to hear it.

“You’re our waiter, Jasper. Did you bring out any menus?”

“You didn’t give tell me that, Hen.” He admitted, and Henry started to get visibly nervous.

“Well, what do you suggest?” Henry asked and Jasper let out and ‘uh’ sound as he thought about it.

“Well there’s this place down the road with killer burgers, but there’s also this place with really good nachos and-”

“I’ll take it from here, Jasper.” Charolette said as she gently pushed Jasper again. “We don’t have menu’s but I can suggest that you have today’s special.”

“What’s the special?” I ask, wanting to play along, I was already there so, why not? It took her a bit but she replied with spaghetti tacos.

“Spaghetti tacos?” I ask, confused and she nodded her head. “That sounds good, but I’d like one of those steaks Henry’s always talking about.” I said, and Char looked over at Henry, they probably weren’t expecting me to ask for it.

“Perfect! We’ll take two.” He said and she nods, then leaves.

“Henry, can we please talk?”

“Not before the entertainment!” He said and rung the bell again and Schowz comes out in his clown outfit.

“Schowz?”

“I am not Schowz, I’m Pippy the Clown!” He exclaimed. “Want to see a magic trick?”

“Sure, why not?”

He took out a deck of cards and fanned it out, and told me to pick one. I took one looked at it and put it back in a random spot of the deck.

He put them back into the deck and took out a random card. “Is this your card?” I shook my head ‘no.’

“This one?” I shook my head again, and he kept trying to guess it, but Henry cleared his throat knowing he was never going to guess it correctly.

“How about a balloon animal, Pippy?” He asked, more annoyed than when Schowz started the act.

He nodded, tossing the deck of cards over his shoulder and took out the balloons. “What kind of animal do you want, little girl?”

“Not a little girl, but how about a dog?” He smiled and begins to make the animal, or tried to at least. He twisted, turned, and tried to form the balloon animal but ended up making something that didn’t quite resemble a dog.

A for effort though.

“Thank you, Pippy. I think we’ve seen enough.” He nods and honks his horn before leaving us alone.

“Henry, we really need to talk.

“Not after-” He started to ring the bell, but took his hand to stop him mid shake of the wrist.

“Henry! Stop, please.” He sighed and apologized.

“I’m sorry. I really am. I just wanted tonight to hopefully make up for what happened the other day.”

“I’m sorry too, for the way I acted and everything. Walking away and refusing to talk to you, it hurt not getting a good morning or good night text every day.” I said, he laughed and I smiled.

“I apologize for missing our one year, that was never my intention. I know we’ll never get it back, but I can promise you; every one after will be better than the last.” He stated, determination in his eyes.

“I have no doubt about that. I forgive you, Henry.” He smiled wide, as we stood up and hugged each other tight, till the point where we heard crying in the background.

It was Ray crying, nose running as he waved his little handkerchief around. “Bravo! Bravo!” I shook my head and laughed.

‘I don’t know how I survived, but I definitely did miss these guys..’

Benny huffs standing up and goes to retrieve his wallet from his coat pocket, before handing me my money. I smiled, cheekily, before plucking the cash out of his hand.

“Thank you, baby.” I stand and peck his lips, but he pulls away abruptly. “Yeah, yeah.”

“All’s fair in love and war, or love and chess. More like..” He rolls his eyes, going over to set the chess pieces back to its original state. And I look at the cash in my hand.

“Hold up, Benny.” I hold the cash up to him. “I won thirty, you gave me twenty.”

“Yeah, I know.”

“That’s wasn’t in the rules.”

“There were no rules to begin with.” I roll my eyes and huff. “Yeah, you won those games fair and square, Congrats.” He congratulated me and placed a kiss to my forehead. “But since you are living under my roof-”

“It’s not a roof, it’s a floor, but continue.”

“I decided to take ten from it, as compensation, if you will.” He explained and I nod my head understandingly. “Right, so if I was to leave, would I be able to have my ten back? Considering I’m not living under your roof at that point.”

He thought about it before grabbing his wallet again, and just my eyes follow him, as he digs out another ten, handing it to me. “Is this your way of telling me, you don’t want me to leave, Benny-boo?” I said, as we both cringed at the nickname.

He sighed, looking at my eyes, before nodding his head slightly. I place and hand on his chest, as I stepped closer, feeling that his heart had picked up speed.

I don’t know, if it was from me, pretending to leave or me putting a hand on his chest. But it genuinely broke my heart seeing a man, who lets nothing get to him. Gets extremely nervous around me, and the fact that I might leave him.

But I must be stupid, drunk or both to leave him. Cause I would never make decision like that sane nor sober.

“Benny?” He refused meet my eye. “You didn’t actually think, I was going to leave you, did you?” I try look into his eyes, but he stared off into a corner of the room.

“Benny..” I started, absolutely devastated and saddened, that he truly thought I would. “Benny, look at me..” It took him some time before he made eye contact with me. By the time he did, you could tell his unshakable and tough demeanor had been torn.

“Benny, I would never, in a million years, leave you.” I said, holding his face in my hands. “You’re just the most amazing and remarkable person, I’ve ever met. You’re sweet, funny, talented..”

He looks away quickly, wiping a tear that had managed to fall. I redirect his face to look at me again. “And incredibly incredibly, handsome. You hearing me?”

“Why would I want to leave and find someone else, when I have the only one I want, right in front of me?”

“You might not see it, but take my word for it, I’m staying here, cause it’s were I belong.” I pat his cheek and leans him down to kiss his forehead, we stand there for a bit, before he collected his barrings, and wiped away any fallen tears.

“Wanna play another round?” He asked, sitting at the table. “Definitely. But before I forget,” I hand him the ten dollar bill, and he looks at me confused.

“It’s for compensation, remember? I wouldn’t want to get kicked out of your house.” I said, as I sat and he rolled his eyes, putting the bill underneath his thigh. “So, what are we playing for now?”

He thinks, before leaning forward with a mischievous grin on his face. “How bout, whomever losses, has to take off an article of clothing. Winners choice.”

“Are you just trying to get me naked, Benny?” He leans back in his chair, hair falling over his right eye. “Only if you agree to the terms and conditions.”

“You’re on, and there’s no way in hell, I’m losing to Benny Watts..”

Sunday was a particularly boring day for me, but I knew that Rodrick and his family had church on Sundays. So, I usually tried to drop by and see him before he went.

I changed out of my pajamas before getting in my car, and drove to his house.

Once I arrived parked and went up to the door and knocked and was greeted by his mother, “Hey, Mrs. Heffley. How are you?”

“I’m fine, it’s good to see you. Here to see Rodrick?”

“You know me so well, is he here?” I asked as she nodded her head and let me inside.

She didn’t have to tell me where his room was, considering I’ve been to there house for a while. I jogged up the stairs to Rodrick’s room, noticing he was still lying in bed, tossing something at the ceiling.

“What are you doing?” I ask and Rodrick sat up, immediately after he tossed the item in the air, causing it to hit him in the head.

I stifle out a laugh, before walking over to him, “You okay?”

“I’m fine, it’s nothing I can’t handle, really.” He said standing up flex. I laugh and noticed his clothes, he wasn’t exactly dressed for church.

“Where’s your church outfit?”

“This is it right here.” He said, looking down at his outfit.

“You can’t wear that to church, Rodrick!” I exclaimed before walking over to his closet and looked for something for him to wear.

After looking through his clothes, I managed to find a button up shirt and dress pants. “Here. Put this on.”

He hesitantly grabbed the clothes from me, and gave me a look. “Just put it on, trust me.” I brought him down to my height to peck his lips. “I’ll be right back.”

I leave his room to find him mom, and found her in the living room, along with her husband, Greg and Manny. “Hey, Mrs. Heffley?”

“Oh, please call me, Susan.”

I smile, upon having the privilege to call her that, “Susan, do you think you guys might have an extra tie for Rodrick to wear?” I asked and they looked shocked at how I managed to get Rodrick wear something like that.

“I think Frank might have one, can you go get one, please?” He nods, as he walked up to his room to grab one. Not too long after, I grab the tie and from him and jogged up the stairs to Rodrick’s room.

I was going to tell him what I got for him, but stopped seeing him his formal outfit. “Woah..”

I watched he turned around and his buttons were in the wrong holes, “I got it, Rodrick.”

“Did you just undo my buttons to look at my chest?” He asked with a mischievous grin plastered on his face.

“I’m trying to help you!” I laugh, as I fixed the buttons.

“Yeah, I don’t buy it.” He smirked, feeling all types of cheeky, I rolled my eyes and showed him the tie.

I bring it around his neck and tried to tie it, but tying ties was never my strong suit, let alone tie it for someone else.

But I figured it wouldn’t be that hard right?

I was wrong it’s actually really hard to do. And when I thought I had it, I didn’t actually have it.

I sighed and tried to make it look nice anyway. “It’s not working out for me, let’s just go downstairs.”

“Look at him, you look nice honey.” Susan smiled and then noticed his tie. “But what happened to your tie? Who did it?”

I was about to tattle on myself, but then Rodrick was quick and took the blame for me. “I did, and I thought it looked pretty good for the most part.”

Susan looked between the two of us and knew immediately what was going on. She knew that I tied his tie and failed miserably, but it warmed her heart seeing her son take the blame.

“Well, I’ll show you how to do it.” She said, and took the tie and verbally explained everything, not just for him before for myself as well.

“There we go, good as new.” She smiled, and looked at me. “Thank you so much for helping, Rodrick.”

“Of course, I’ll always be there to help out.”

“Oh really? Cause I need to find Manny a babysitter and I-”

“Would you look at the time? I have to get home, I’ll see you guys tomorrow.” I quickly gave Rodrick a kiss to the cheek and hurried out the house with a quickness.
