hello! i am so sorry to bother you but the word on the street is that you have been on jibcon this year. well, i am planning to go next year. and i just have this little problem bc i've never been to rome and idk how to find/choose some place to sleep there at a reasonable price and how much will food and stuff like that cost me. care to share some tips? I WILL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL
the word on the street? :DDD (awesome, I feel like a badass from a gang ;D)
Well I chose Hilton Hotel because my friends were all staying there and because I would get lost otherwise hehe. But it’s obviously not an economic option. I heard that some people chose B&Bs that are close to train stations around Fiumicino airport and then took trains to get to Airport (the airport is right next to Hilton btw, you can walk!). I have no idea how prices for those B&Bs around Fiumicino are tho. The city center of Rome might be a cheaper option (but still not by a lot - expect to spend 30-40€ minimun for 1 person per night - it depends in how many you are in the room. But it’s still a lot cheaper than Hilton).
I suggest you keep checking the prices for hotels here:
http://www.booking.com/ And just look for either places near Fiumicino, or near city center/main train stations!
To get from city center of Rome to Fiumicino Airport is not that hard, BUT it takes more than 1 hour and the buses (&trains) are, in a traditional italian way, sometimes in delay :) We were staying at a B&B right next to Termini Station only on Thursday night, from there all the buses (&trains) leave, and it was ok because all activities on Friday only start at 3pm, but for other days, it could get tricky because the con activities start at 9am (especially the Cockles photo op, if you get it, you don’t wanna miss that haha :p)
For food, I advise you to take some with you if you can. I was in Rome for only 4 days, so I didn’t spend much on it (And I had breakfast included anyway from staying at Hilton). I was mostly eating hotel breakfast + quick snack/sandwich for lunch + dinner at the airport/Hilton. The prices for dinner at hilton are crazy though (10€ for a salad :p), so you might want to stay away from there. The airport restaurants are much cheaper, and it is not that far away, but the problem for us was that the airport had most of the restaurants closed because of a fire that happened there, which sucked.
Also, if you decide to stay in Hilton, or if you have friends who will have a room there, the rooms have kettles, so if you want to spare, you can maybe buy some of those soups & noodles that you just pour hot water in and it’s done :))
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! ;)
