Repost @flyingfuranimalrescue October 14, 2019. --------------------------- I DIDN'T get a ton of photos on this flight. I didn't get a lot of photos, but I did get this one. Departing North Carolina, with the realization of a failed alternator, I was intently watching my volt meter to see just how long I could keep our aircraft airborne; with only the basic necessary electrical equipment to safely get my 12 pawsengers home. Can we sustain the 2 hour flight? or will the battery be dead in 20 minutes? Nobody knows. When you're faced with a serious challenge, time has a way of standing still. Your mind races, calculating all of the possible scenarios and outcomes you may have to deal with. You rationalize the situation, calculate your next move, and hope your decision is the right one. Your attention is fixated on a small, seemingly benign gauge in your aircrafts instrument panel that has suddenly become the center of your universe. You consult your aircraft's operating handbook; you read the emergency procedures; and lastly, you listen to your gut. Of all of my recent rescues, this photo is one of my favorites; saved from death row, with everything stacked against him, he would now gently trot the last few feet to meet his freedom.
