Our family frequently flies to Japan that we can’t count how many times we have been to the country. But to give a guess, we’ve probably visited for relatively ten times. The trips eventually became boring because there was nothing else left to sightsee. Whenever our mom planned another trip, my siblings and I would blurt out the question; “JAPAN NANAMAN?” but we go anyway. Just this past halloweekend, we flew to the land of the rising sun for the nth time. We expected it to be just another Japan trip but we were wrong! Our last trip to Japan ended up as the best one yet! Get to know why below.
Our usual accomodation was unavailable so we rented a house through Airbnb. It was our first time to do so in Japan and we were anxious that we might not find the address but it was a breeze with Google Maps. From the airport, we drove forty-five minutes and located our lovely local home easily. We were pleased to find a traditional Japanese home with such unique architectural and interior features! We had to take off our shoes upon entering as the floors were covered with Tatami mats. We slept in cozy cushions called shikibuton and it was an enjoyable traditional familiarity that we would not have experienced had we stayed at a high-class hotel.
While there’s no denying that good food is found ubiquitously in Japan, it’s quite risky to try out restaurants for the very first time. Not to mention, all the signages and menus are written in Japanese! Using Gurunavi, a gourmet and restaurant guide, we were able to find local cuisine that were tried, tested and recommended by many. Safe to say, we had the freshest sushi rolls, most flavorful ramen, crispiest katsu and tastiest green tea of our lives! Oishii!
Gone are the days when we were lost in translation and all we could say was “Kon'nichiwa!” Equipped with Google Translate on our phones, we were actually able to get acquainted and chat with the locals. I told this girl group how I loved their sense of style, asked them where they got their cute coverups and even took this kawaī shashin (cute picture) with them!
Live like a local: check! Eat like a local: check! Talk to locals: check! Look like a local: CHECK! With Bing Browser, we were able to convert Japanese websites into English, making it stress-free for us to find cool things to do within our range. The kimono is eminent universally as Japan’s national costume. We’ve always wanted to try on one and this aspiration finally came true! It wasn’t easy to discover a studio that offered such service but delightedly, it was a wish granted!
Despite being to Japan for innumerable times, our last visit was definitely the best one yet. We experienced it with brand new eyes and that is because we had one very important thing with us- FLYTPACK Pocket WiFi. It’s a personal wireless router that enabled us to stay connected during the whole trip. We were able to maximize the handy travel applications above and access them anytime, anywhere. We were no longer constantly hunting for free WiFi and our Airbnb’s weak connection didn’t bother us at all. Our whole family was able to appreciate Flytpack as you can connect up to 8 devices! Safe to say, Flytpack is our new travel buddy and we’re reserving one for our next trip as early as now! How about you, KAVOGUE? Live local, eat local, talk local and look local for as low as P180/day by reserving your new travel buddy at http://www.flytpack.com.
