if you want to would you explain the alex and marc save (?) Franky plot line i have heard tell of? I'm out of the loop and need to suffer more

oh i would LOVE to. ok ok so context obviously; franky is part of valentino’s academy which famously is manning the front lines of vale’s proxy war with marc. this has resulted in many an uncomfortable but narratively rich scene over the years

ducati typically offers their riders some preseason track time on road bikes (not motogp bikes) during a scheduled worldSBK test in portimao, and in classic vale fashion he invited himself along too. so ok vale, and the entire academy (plus cele lol) are there and marc alex and enea are excommunicated to a neighbouring garage for the day. shun the nonbelievers etc etc. portimao is insane, and franky crashed out horribly. alex and marc were close enough behind him, saw franky was down off track, and dropped everything to help him out.

it was very serious, based on what marc and alex said about it after, and it sounds like it could have ended very differently if they hadn’t been right behind him. he was later diagnosed with a concussion and had to miss all of this years official preseason testing.

much has been made of the interactions between franky and the brothers marquez since, obviously because of the rossi of it all, the academy boys have unilaterally kind of remained cool with marc and therefore alex over the years. so franky tagging marc on instagram to say thank you, talking about them both to the press, going over to chat with alex and marc during downtime in the paddock, is a bit of a big deal in the endless cold war between cervera and tauvilla.

so yeah i hope that helps answer your question! theres other pieces to ruminate on too, like the fact that alex and franky were teammates in moto2, and that alex and pecco were teammates back in the day as well, that vale was there in his cult leader show of force making marc have to deal with him in his own workplace years after vale “retired” and marc is still there showing up popping his pussy on a brand new bike and also saving lives. crazy!!
