Have you ever tried making Ed’s arm for cosplay?
YESSSS I GET TO TALK ABOUT MY COSPLAYS!
So for those of you who don’t know, I have a TikTok (siedertree.cos is my username,) and one of my first and favorite cosplays is our favorite angry blonde, Edward Elric!
(Here’s a video as a taste:)
(I also cosplay a variety of other characters from anime, video games, and so much more!)
As for if I’ve ever tried to make an arm for it, I have actually not! I’ve thought about it, and would like to try, but it would be quite a big build, and I am rather inexperienced in terms of that.
I feel like if I were to do it though, I’d probably take a long, black glove as my base, and build up the parts of the arm using a lightweight material (such as cardboard or foam) to give me a good amount of comfort as well as enough space to move the arm around in cool poses. Probably leave some spaces fairly open as well, such as where the arm bends, so I don’t risk damaging the arm when I move. I’d probably use hot glue to attach the pieces, or have some sort of pinning system so I can remove and work on parts if they’re in disrepair, but I’m not sure how I’d make that work. I have a lot of metallic paints, and I could make a pretty convincing metal look being an artist and whatnot.
(Note: if you plan to use this I’d suggest planning it on your non-dominant arm, so you don’t have to really worry about not being able to do things like use your phone as easily.)
I feel like that’s a pretty solid plan, and it would save me some measuring with the arm because I already have a base for it. I might try it now that I have a plan laid out. Might get some help from my dad too, he’d pretty handy with measurements and he has a lot of tools.
Thanks for the inspiration! Now that I’ve thought it out a bit, it’s less daunting.
(Reminder that the ask box is open! I’ll answer any FMA related things here. If you’d like to ask something more general, the inbox on my main account ( @siedertreestudios ) is open too!)
