haneul had never been in the us before, this was his first trip and even if he knew the jetlag could be extremely difficult to navigate. he didn’t mind or care-- because he was there to perform for international fans but also film a music video for one of their b-sides from their debut mini album.
“ hyung, ” he looked up at the sky with wide eyes-- the sky was clear and blue and the sun was burning, “ is it ok for us to go out like this? ”
somehow haneul had managed to pull kyubok with him from their hotel room-- he wanted to explore but also didn’t want to go out alone. thankfully they had been able to rest properly at the hotel. haneul looked at his reflection in a passing glass, walking around in a bucket hat and white t-shirt in this weather was perfect.
“ where should we go first? ”
there were so many options and he hadn’t given kyubok a choice when he had asked him to come with him-- so the least he could do was let him decide where to go first.

OVERALL COMPANY
Gold Star is teaming up with VLive this quarter to host a special VLive relay as company promotion. This means that every artist under Gold Star Media (including the un-debuted members of Marigold and Quicksilver, who will do so under the moniker of Gold Star trainees) will be expected to do a solo VLive this quarter to participate in the relay. The date will be flexible with management, but it will be pre-scheduled and pre-announced and will need to last at least fifteen minutes, but can be longer. Due to delays in the finishing touches being put on the Base Culture Complex, BC, Dimensions, and Gold Star have also banded together to get some mediaplay opportunities and good media karma in the name of base by hosting a community service event each month together. Idols are encouraged to participate for good press, but they are not required to.

SILHOUETTE
Silhouette celebrates eleven years on the very first day of the quarter and will hold a group VLive to celebrate with their fans. They’re welcome to tease their upcoming comeback during that time as long as they don’t spoil too much, as it will have been announced by then. They come back on July 19th and the song does well to the standard of Silhouette’s last few releases. They also participate in festival season, having a few gigs booked to perform thanks to their general public appeal due to their longevity and mature image. They’ve also been chosen as ambassadors of LG phones and will record and film a special promotional single for the brand in August that will be released in September. On top of that, Silhouette is scheduled to release another mini-album before the year is out, which they’ll record in August after wrapping comeback promotions. In September, they’ll be learning the title track choreography and attending fittings.

ARIA
The first half of the quarter is spent finishing comeback preparations and Aria makes their comeback in August. It’s one of their more traditionally summer-themed releases and the response among both fans and the general public are mixed, but still generally positive. It’s not the hit song of the summer, but a full album makes fans happy (even if a sizable chunk of it is member solo tracks) and Aria continues to experiment with maturing their sound. They continue promotions through almost the end of the quarter with music shows and fan signs, and Gold Star has booked them for a few festivals to get the song out to more ears.

ORIGIN
Origin is expected to continue to practice their performance of their comeback throughout July and August, but they will be flying in and out of Osaka over this time period as they kickstart the Japan leg of their tour. Most of their time is still spent in Seoul, though, since they have plenty of comeback preparations still left to do such as fittings, teaser photo shoots, and the music video filming. During this time before they’re busy with promotions, they’ll also record their next mini-album. Their single “Dynamite” is released in August and as their first true English single is an even bigger success than anyone really expected, though Gold Star put in a lot of work on their end to make sure it was successful. It tops the charts in countries all over the world, including South Korea and the US, earning them the first ever Billboard Hot 100 #1 for an all-South Korean act and dominating the Korean charts for an impressive length of time. They might just have another song of the year in the bag. Promotions continue as normal, with music shows and performances for overseas media, though they won’t be having any fan signs since it’s a single release.

IMPULSE
Impulse will be traveling back and forth on their Impulse Road Tour throughout Asia and the US in July and August. Once they get back from tour, they’ll be preparing for their Japanese comeback and their Korean comeback at the same time. Though they’ll record their Japanese mini-album and learn the title track’s choreography in July, August will see them balancing fittings and photo book shoots for their Japanese comeback with recording their Korean comeback mini album. In September, they’ll film their music video for their Japanese title track and make their comeback with the Japanese mini-album as well as practice the choreography for their Korean comeback title track, “Blue Flame” and staged b-side “When The Wind Blows”.

FUSE
Activity finally kicks back up for Fuse this quarter. They’re in high gear for comeback preparations as they finish preparing to make their first comeback in what will be a few days over a year at the time of release. On top of that, they have some performances in the form of festival concerts and one in their role as Shilla Duty Free ambassadors, and they also wrap up their La Rouge concert tour in Yokohama a few weeks before their comeback. “Hands Up” earns mixed opinions, as Fuse singles have often done in the past, but the song does well enough to prove Fuse shouldn’t be dungeoned long-term.

Fuse B&W continue to promote “Naughty” throughout June with the regular round of music show promotions. It’s praised for its choreography and brings some extra attention to the members of the sub-unit and makes fans a little less antsy about a full group comeback, as both of the sub-units promotions were intended to.

FEMME FATALE
Femme Fatale starts the quarter by finishing getting everything ready for their comeback at the very end of July. Shortly before their comeback, they make a festival appearance, something that’s become rare for them lately, and fans are excited to see them participate in one again. “Ice Cream” does well because they’re Femme Fatale, but it isn’t the un-paralleled hit Gold Star might have hoped for, as it ends up being a polarizing release among fan opinion. Luckily, they’ll already be working on their first full-length album by the time they make that comeback. They’ll record the album throughout July and August, and during their time off of promotions in August, they’ll also be in the dance studio to practice choreography for “Lovesick Girls” and “Pretty Savage”. Once they’re done promoting “Ice Cream”, September will be dedicated to finishing up The Album and they’ll also do a shoot for American Elle, where they’ll appear on the cover for October’s issue.

Much like their debut quarter, this quarter is once again an incredibly busy one for Vive. They start it off with going overseas to the US for their showcase tour across the country. During their time in Chicago, they’ll film a special MV for their b-side “Our Summer”. Once they get back, they’ll performance at their first ever festival and they’ll work on getting down the choreography they’ll need to know for their next comeback (”Run Away”, “New Rules”, “Poppin’ Star”, “Can’t We Just Leave The Monster Alive?”, “Angel or Devil”) on rather short notice for how much they have to learn. Their Korean comeback is received well despite not garnering as much attention as their debut. There’s no time to bask in the glow of their first comeback, though as they’ll be busy all throughout late August and September prepping to make their Japanese debut by recording the mini-album. The group will also be recording their first ever OST in August, for release in September.

MARIGOLD
First things first, Marigold will film the dance covers they practiced last quarter over the course of July. They’ll be released one by one until the final cover is released the day Marigold’s debut is planned to be announced to the press. Marigold begins to prep for their debut release in earnest this quarter. They’re confirmed internally for a debut in the second half of October with a single album. They’ll be given the chance to listen to the demos in early July and will record the single album throughout July and early August. In August, they’ll practice hard on their choreography for the title “Hocus Pocus” and the b-side “Be Ambitious”. They’ll be expected to work extra hard on all aspects of their debut preparation since they have a lot to live up to with Gold Star’s track record of girl group success. Comeback prep starts to wrap up in September for them. At the end of September, the group’s dance line will film a special cover video with Dingo as pre-debut promotion.

QUICKSILVER
The debut of Quicksilver is closer, but they have more time to prepare than Marigold, so Gold Star has arranged for them to get some additional training in the form of a pre-debut reality show that will be released shortly before their debut. For the show, they’ll be traveling to Los Angeles for two two-week periods to train at famous dance studios in the city. They’ll stay in a house rented out by the company and, in addition to training, they’ll show their team bonding through sightseeing locations such as Santa Monica Pier and Universal Studios and holding weekly group meetings. During their second two-week block, they’ll also focus on recording a pre-debut song and filming a low-budget music video for it in Los Angeles (*Junyoung’s lines will go to main rapper/lead dancer). They’ll film the performance videos they’d be rehearsing for before they leave, and in September, they’ll practice to film a cover of Knight’s “Growl”, which will also be released but will also serve as a way for Gold Star to gauge their improvement as a result of filming the reality show before they begin preparing for their debut more intensely next quarter.

by the time solo promotions are hung and dry, it paves the way for freedom in fuse schedules. one show after another, a song that barely clings on the tip of her tongue as she spares emptiness on stage, emptiness in her eyes. no love for a song that’s pushed on the fuse brand.
minjung expects some morsels of independence when years give her the reckoning of a senior idol. yet, gold star bolsters a different agenda when her manager nudges her side, forcing her to look up in a silent look that dictates ‘go say hello to the fellow idols, reckon your image with some nice pr.’ the instance forces out an all-but-genuine sigh, peeling herself from the sofa and into the blinding florescent lights of the hallway. make-up painted on and the stage outfits swishing noise with each step, she hollows out the next room with a steady rap on the door with her knuckles.
“hi — i’m minjung of fuse. please take care of us well today.” she’s got this down to a fine-line art, drawing the edges of her grin into a precise line of formal greetings, and a bow that barely hits ninety degrees. “i hope you look forward to our comeback with hands up.”
INT. AN UNDISCLOSED BEAUTY SALON, GANGNAM ● NIGHT.

The day has finally come for Rioh to color his hair, and though he knew this was likely to happen throughout his career as an idol, he hoped that he could hold onto his natural hue for longer—at least through the first few comebacks. Truth be told, he wasn’t sure how he’d feel about having a head full of damaged hair. Sure, it may look beautiful after the process is completed, but the thought of running his fingers through straw-like strands completely abhors him. In truth, he just doesn’t understand how anyone could enjoy having a parched heap of ( often brittle ) whorls on their head, but now, he gets to have a massive sampling of just that, and he’s totally nervous. What if he looks in the mirror and doesn’t recognize his reflection? What if he can’t even look in the mirror because he despises his own appearance that much? So far, all of the possibilities that he’s created in his mind have negative outcomes, but he tries his hardest to heed his dad’s advice: always look on the bright-side, especially in the darkest situations. While this “situation” isn’t necessarily dark in matter or tone, to him, it’s definitely not the most welcome change—and he made that known to the company to no avail. He signed a contract, after all.
It’s been around three and a half hours on his third day ( in a row ) at the salon, and as he’s at the shampoo bowl, he allows his eyes to fall shut; doing his best to focus solely on the set of hands that massage his scalp—fingertips assisting in rinsing out the final round of toner down the drain. The scent of it is surprisingly perfumed and sweet, and he allows that alone to help soothe him from the anxiousness he feels regarding the results of all this work. It would be a little easier to bear had they chosen a color not so far off from his own to start with, but no—according to the styling team, the shade selected for him perfectly captures the concept. It’s a stark contrast from his soft-black locks of yesterday, one that he’s unsure if he can pull off or not, so when he’s instructed to sit up from his lying position, he pauses before walking back over to the chair; turning to meet eyes with his hair stylist. “Is it okay if you face me away from the mirror until it’s all blow-dried and styled? I don’t know if I’m ready to see it yet.” Maybe it was a strange request for him to make, but they didn’t seem too deterred. Thank God.
For the next forty-five minutes, he held conversation as best he could to keep himself distracted—his rambles a good tell that his fear of what’s to come is robust. His legs were restless as the last bits of product were smoothed through his hair, and in a flash, he was finished. It’s then that his chair is turned in its place, but instead of “meeting” his new self immediately, he closes his eyes; playfully lifting his palms to cover them for added effect. “I don’t know if I can...” Childish isn’t a word he likes to be described as, but that’s definitely what he’s acting like right now. It’s only hair—it can be changed or regrown. That’s what he repeats to himself like a mantra to feel more brave; more comfortable. Moments later, he drops his hands to his lap and slowly bats open his lashes; gasping at the dramatic buttery blonde he’s been given as a replacement.
"W—Whoa...” He croaks, swallowing hard as his mouth as run dry. Rioh’s in shock—at least in enough of it to feel speechless, which is wholly out of character for him. All he can do is turn to the beautician and bow, silently thanking them for doing a good job. He can’t deny that it’s the exact look that his team was going for, but at this point, he has no idea how to feel yet.
As promised, he rises from his seat and wanders over to the blank wall only feet away from him. Reaching into his pocket to retrieve his phone, he quickly snaps a photo of himself and sends it to his parents; unsure of what they’ll think after his supposed transformation. Sighing deeply, he leaves through the back door and enters the car waiting to pick him up—now en route to Gold Star Media HQ to rehearse the comeback’s choreography and vocals. It’s alarming to him how rapidly he has to process this and move on, and all at the same time, he’s also ( strangely ) getting used to being rushed everywhere—used to feeling like life is traveling at the speed of a sonic boom. Hopefully in time his image changes start to feel normal, too, but for now... he’s still not convinced he works as a blond.
Maybe others will think so? That’s all he can bet on now.

once again daiyu felt overwhelmed. gold star teamed up with vlive to do a special live relay with all idols and public trainees under gold star. the company wanted some promotion. and what better way to get it then with fan interaction.
she hasn’t even debuted and she was expected to do a solo vlive. gold star was really pushing their trainees. more than she had ever seen them do it in the past six years since she joined. a part of her knew it was most likely because of the former members of element. public trainees most likely meant they would be debuting soon. fans would quickly find out that gold star was preparing to debut not one but two new groups in the same year they just debuted a new boy group. three groups in one year is a lot. it’s pretty obvious why they pushing for public exposure.
marigolds debut was getting closer. and strangely it still felt far away. until they debuted it seemed the company was going to jump on every chance they got to put her and her fellow trainee in marigold our there. the fans would already now her by name. when it was officially announced she’d debut. her fans and the general public will already have an opinion on her. it made her nervous in a way. it was important that she made a decent impression. she may not care about her career but she had three other members to think about. she couldn’t have people forming negative opinions before she’s even shown the world her talent. the reason why she made it past auditions. all the company cared about was if you had a pretty face and a decent voice. she obviously checked off one those requirements.
she stood in one of gold stars empty room. a camera in front of her. she started the live waiting as people joined. “hello.” she said as the number of viewers rose. “my name is daiyu. gold star trainee. here to answer your questions.”
slowly comments started rolling in. she picked a few to answer trying to keep her answers short. avoiding questions about when she was going to debut and if there was any new groups planned.
“favorite fruit?” she said reading a comment.
“i’m gong to have to say kiwi.” eyes searching for another question. “do you have any pets? i do not. if i were to adopt an animal it would probably be a cat.” cats were more suited to her career at the moment. when she moves back to america she wouldn’t mind having a dog.
“can you speak english? and the answer is yes. born and raised in america.”
she did a few more of these quick fire questions. “thank you for spending the night with me. i’m glad i got to meet you all. bye.” she said before clicking the button to end the live. it was over. she couldn’t be more grateful. she can only hope this gets easier.
somehow haneul felt nervous, despite having stood on stage many different times already but this was their comeback stage. it was somewhat special, it would be the first time they were meeting the public through a music channel. this was a song that haneul was proud of, their first performance meant everything. they had finished their rehearsals, everything had gone smoothly it was only the actual performance that was left now.
standing behind the stage he adjusted the microphone, the set that had been prepared for their comeback looked really nice. ethereal and magical, which was the concept they were going for this time around.
it was time for them to go on stage and haneul, took a deep breath as he stepped onto stage. the lightning was blue ( his favorite color ), it made him feel calm. they turned to the crowd, greeted everyone like they always did before a performance. hearing the crowd cheer for them made him feel more at ease, the confidence in him building as he stood there.
they got into their positions, in a direct line behind kyubok, haneul took a deep breath; in his ear he heard the music start and his body moved on instinct, just like he had practiced for months now. just to make sure everything would be perfect for the comeback. haneul danced with precision when his verse came he delivered it with charm, a playful smile, and a tilt of the head when the camera zoomed in on him.

the performance was going smoothly, he didn’t have the time to pay attention to the other members right now; he knew they would be able to get through it if a mistake happened but he had a feeling that wouldn’t be the case.
siwoo starts the chorus and haneul follows up after him, “ run away, run away, run away with me, ” singing while dancing using his shoulders. while on stage there is nothing in his mind, he performs the song, dancing with his body and making sure to use his facial expressions to deliver the feeling of the lyrics whether he or the members is singing.
acting is a huge part of the performing was something he’d always thought and it was important to keep the feel of the song, deliver the message properly, regardless who is singing.
the music quiets down, haneul sings his line of the bridge, the delivery is flawless and when the whole performance is over, he runs of stage and watches siwoo finish. a proud smile on his face, as he remembers how much the other struggled with the choreography earlier. siwoo comes down from the stage and haneul makes sure to give him a thumbs up, followed by a wide smile.
daiyu loved animals. big or small. furry or scaly. it didn’t matter. growing up she never had a pet in the house. it’s not that her parents wouldn’t allow her to have one. it’s just that somehow it just never happened. the only animals she got to be around are the pets her friends had. so when the animal shelter volunteer opportunity came up she knew she was going to be there.
which is why she now stood in the the kitten room with a bag of cat food in her arms. it was feeding time and the kittens stood at her feet. she looked towards duri who stood nearby. "duri oppa." she yelled to get the older mans attention. "can you hand me those bowls please?" she said eyeing the small stack of feeding bowls on the table she forgot to grab.
kids aren’t really seolhwa’s thing. it’s not like she has some kind of vendetta against them. they’re often cute and she doesn’t run and hide if one shows up, but cuteness can only get someone by for so long, child or adult, if they don’t have anything else going for them. not to mention, she’s heard of the corruption rampant in orphanages and doesn’t trust the three entertainment companies to have really done much background research into the organization they’re promoting by way of volunteering for them.
so, admittedly, she probably would have backed out of the volunteering event if she hadn’t been pushed to participate with the implication the company wanted to get her some positive publicity to give her some good individual media karma. it could be that she was reading into it too much, but it sounded to her like that meant they were actually going to let her do something major enough on her own to warrant such a need, so she’d found her reluctant maybe turning into a yes.
still, she’s not a natural with the kids the way some of the other idols around her are and while she’s had one or two run over to ask her if she’s a part of femme fatale with a smile on her face, the one who’s stuck by her side up until now is clearly growing bored with her considering he stands from where they’re seated on the floor in front of a pile of legos and goes up to the closest other person he can find. she hears him ask jaeyoon for help because ‘that girl isn’t very good at legos’ (which she resents. she’s great at legos, but this kid won’t explain what he’s trying to build). she speaks up, if only to keep the kid from innocently starting a list of her faults, “looks like you’ve got ‘lego master’ written all over your face,” she jokes, “you considered that as part of your image for when you debut? no one’s done that one yet.”
