Why anon, I’m so glad you asked! I’m sure every person holding giveaways has their own method of choosing winners, so I can only show you what works for me.
For each giveaway I hold, I have a spreadsheet in my Google Drive that lists each entrant’s tumblr username. Since people can enter more than once for my Follower Milestone Giveaway, their username is added to the list (1) time for each time they reblog up to a total of (10) times, and an additional (5) times for those who make a comment as per the rules. This means a person’s tumblr url can be listed on the entrant spreadsheet a maximum of (15) times (and I do count!).
I won’t post people’s usernames for a modicum of privacy, but instead I have made a mock-up for you so you can see how I organize things:
Once the contest has ended, I will paste all the names as separate entries into a list randomizer, such as the one on random.org. It will scramble up the names and spit them out in a random order, like so:
So, according to the results, jinsmiddlefinger and strongpowerwhodis would be my two prize winners. I will then go and check their accounts, checking Y or N in the columns to make sure they meet all the rules and requirements of the giveaway. A bitch ain’t got time to check all those criteria for every single person who enters, so I count everyone as innocent until proven guilty. If a winner has broken any rules, they will be disqualified and I will choose the next name on the list, and so on until I find two people who have followed the rules.
As you can tell from the example, the more entries you submit by reblogging and commenting, the higher percentage of probability you have to be chosen since your name will appear on the list multiple times.
As for the third prize involving comments, that part will have a bit of heart in it. I will be reading through all the comments and choosing the winner for that prize myself. I’m not taking into account length or grammar or anything unnecessary. I’ll simply be choosing whichever message resonates with me the most, plain and simple.
Of course, since I run these contests alone, I use my best judgement for any outlying situations. I do all my contests and giveaways for fun and out of my own pocket, so I reserve some personal judgement when necessary. For example, if you are drawn as a winner and I go to your tumblr and see that it’s full of racial slurs, homophobic propaganda, anti-bts content, etc., you can bet your ass I’ll be picking a different winner and you can go fuck yourself.
