Companions Favourite Songs on the Radio + Why
I've gotten a few questions on why I chose the songs I did for each character so I figured I may as well post about it :)
FO4
Cait; Crazy He Calls Me; The only thing she can relate to is ‘crazy he calls me’ and that's basically it. However, she has often wanted the feeling of being ‘crazy in love’ and hopes to one day experience the song in its full value and meaning
Curie: Anything Goes; It was the first song she heard when she left the vault, the message that ‘anything goes’ and that anything can happen to lift her spirits even more when looking at the enormous world she now gets to experience
Danse: Its The End of the World; He doesn't like music on its own and finds it distracting during missions, but if he had to choose one it would be this song. He finds its message charming, wishing more people would accept the reality around them and focus on the current issues instead of focusing on the past and future.
Deacon: Atom Bomb Baby; He cannot help but hum and sing along to it whenever it appears on the radio, the puns and metaphors being right up his alley and the intro being his favourite melody to hum when he’s bored. He also just loves the word ‘wigwam’.
Hancock: Personality; It’s slow, sombre and has a lot of sexual undertones, what's not to love? He loves singing along to it while teasing Sole and making them all flustered over it.
MacCready: Baby It’s Just You; Hearing Magnolia song it in the Third Rail for a while, he's memorised the entire song and requests it whenever he can. He recalls back to Lucy while humming along to it. Eventually, he begins replacing that image of her with Sole, but still retains the same amount of love and respect for what the song holds.
Nick: Way Back Home; it was Pre-War Nicks favourite song, its charming melody causing him to recall back to the Pre-War days with his wife and home, he listens to it whenever he's overworked or about to rest.
Piper: Pistol Packin’ Mama; her go-to weapon is a pistol and that's basically it. Nat made the reference when she began sporting the weapon and it stuck, her and Nat always sing it together whenever it comes on the radio.
Preston: Sixty Minute Man; He chooses to ignore the sexual undertone of the song and focuses more on its upbeat tempo and the reference to the ”Minute Man”; though he cants help but recall to it whenever he and Sole are ‘busy’
X6-88: Civilisation; He feels a sense of personal connection with the song. Hes a man/synth of refinement and has a distaste for the Wasteland in comparison to the institute. So, although while he does not necessarily find interest in music, it was charming to him that people felt the same way before the war and before such a place of cleanliness and ‘perfection’ like the institute was created
FNV
Arcade: Big Iron; it reminds him of the stories he was told as a kid, a big bad guy taken down by the good guy. This childish hopes stayed with him and when he first listened to the song he was so heavily invested in the story of the outlaw and ranger, it was like he was a child again, without fear or worry.
Boone: Blue Moon; he feels like it captures the moment he first met Carla. Down on his luck and overwhelmingly depressed since BitterSprings, hoping for a new chance at a better life, the universe finally giving him something good
Cass: In the Shadow of the Valley; it's her dream to finally settle down and look at the world for what it is without a single care, while she can’t yet experience it personally, the song is the closest thing she can get
Raul: Lone Star; It reminds him of his old home and family on the farm, along with the memory of singing it with his family while they worked.
Veronica: Jingle Jangle; Much like Deacon she just loves belting out a “JINGLE JANGLE” whenever it plays no matter what situation it is.
FO3
Butch: Dear Hearts and Gentle People; He isn't into all the depressing songs like the majority of other ones on the radio, and he never understood music without words so he naturally defaulted to this song. Though the song does instil a bit of hope that good people still exist out there.
Charon: I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire; He doesn't like music but does find an odd charm to this one, disregarding it being a love song. He finds the eeriness of it oddly calming, finding that it fits in well with the world as it is.
Clover: Easy Living; she dreams about a life with just her and her lover at their home enjoying a peaceful, normal life. The song helps her relax and daydream over the possibilities.
Fawkes: Mighty Mighty Man; why not? It's loud and makes its presence known and a lot of people find it obnoxious, right up Fawkes’ alley
Jericho: Butcher Pete; it's about a guy going around a smashing every woman he sees both figuratively and literally, what else would a misogynistic raider need to relate to?
