tfw you go to detroit to see fall out boy for the 10th time
and it’s fucking great and you gotta write a long ass post about it
well okay i have a lot to say but it’s all important though.
MONDAY: leave chicago with lauren @peters-wentz and embark upon 4 hour drive to dearborn where erin @stumpjpg lives. was fun. we listened to fall out boy for like most of the ride and made good time. we got there at like 5 pm and then later that night we went into detroit to scope out the venue. productivity
TUESDAY:
7:30 AM (14 hours ‘til fall out boy) we arrived at the venue and got out chairs and blankets and we were like 6th in line? and there we waited. all day in the freezing cold. here is a bulleted list of significant things that happened
watched the sunrise
met some people i knew from other shows which was cool af
talked to the radio station people who filmed this interview
mid afternoon someone came around with some chips because fall out boy apparently had asked them to bring us chips out there in the freezing cold it was so sweet
later fall out boy’s assistant came out and brought us hot chocolate (she was like a 20 something girl, i was like...you look like you could be in line with us omfg)
ANYWAY doors were at 6:30 so finally after 11 hours we got in the venue, at that point they did some shit where they let in like 3 lines at once so we were one person back from barricade which was annoying >:( but it’s fine honestly i could see everything fine anyway...
the openers were KYGO, nathan sykes, and tori kelly. kygo was kinda cool but i was bored also because dj sets are not the most engaging content. nathan sykes was really good but he only did like 3 songs idk why...? i guess he wasn’t an official opener. TORI KELLY on the other hand was really fun and i enjoyed her set but i literally knew 0 songs by any of them so it was kind of like suffering for 3 hours until
9:30 PM
fall out boy finally arrived. i started crying when sugar started because this was my 10th time seeing my fucking favorite band and i’ve seen them LITERALLY 7 TIMES THIS YEAR. a year ago i had seen fob 3 times and i thought maybe i’d see them ONCE in 2015. if i was lucky. they mean so much to me and this show was so beautiful
we were on pete’s side and i know i lowkey made eye contact with him a few times but i’m never really sure 👀 also i don’t think pete would necessarily be able to recognize me in a crowd just bc...why would he but i know he would know who i am if i told him
I LITERALLY should be a fuckin professional because their sets are so predictable all their movements during each song are like choreographed i know exactly when to get my phone out to film when patrick and/or pete gets on the riser it’s so predictable i die every time though....good shit 👌 that’s my band
toward the end of the set this person in front of me left so i was at the barricade for a few songs which was nice. and then after their set ended i was like arguing with the security guy over one of pete’s picks that was on the ground but he wouldn’t pick it up for me because “he wanted to keep it for himself” like BRO....i mean i get it but still... i was like “you don’t even like fob” because he had literally told us he didn’t even know the band but evidently this dude just collects picks from all the bands he’s security at...smh. he wanted me to pay him like $20 for it but i was not about to drop that much for one of pete’s damn picks oh my god
AFTER THE SHOW we booked it over to our car and got our coats then went over to the bus and this was so fckin annoying but there were all these people by their bus waiting and at that point i was like, there’s no way anyone is actually gonna meet people not even patrick... we were watching this one door and after a while the security came out like “LOL THEY LEFT ALREADY all of you go home they’re at their hotel” and the bus driver pulled the bus away and then like 75% of the crowd cleared off. but the mystery was that fob’s personal security guard was still there so we were like ummm 👀 and this dude beside me was like “PATRICK WOULD HAVE STAYED” and i was like true, patrick has been known to meet fans for like an hour after shows... and the guy was like “YEAH patrick’s the nicest guy in the world this is that bleached blonde douchebag pete wentz’s fault!!!”
and the irony of this statement was that at that very moment , probably, pete and patrick were around the other side of the venue (by the other entrance) meeting some fans who were smart enough to go to the other side and then they got on their bus. after a few minutes everyone kinda realized they must be on the other side and we went around but it was too late....we caught andy and joe going into their bus but pete and patrick were already inside too. rip meeting fob. i wasn’t even mad because my ass fucking got to this show and i’ve met them a bunch already anyway
at that point their bus pulled out and almost ran me over...goodbye.... but we went back to the car and got in and watched fob’s bus literally drive right past us and we were like HEY LET’S FOLLOW THEM i mean as creepy as that is they were just casually driving down the street in downtown detroit so we followed them for like 5 minutes and were fuckin stuck in traffic behind fall out boy for a hot second. we knew they were going to boston the next night so maybe they were going to a hotel or the airport or something? but the bus got on the highway and we had to abandon them because we were not about to drive our ass to boston and/or get lost forever somewhere around detroit. we have fun.
ANYWAY. the consensus is this was the most fucking fun i’ve had in so long and i’m truly blessed to have all the opportunities i’ve had this year and see my favorite band with my friends and these two days were so good....i live for this shit... 3 months until wintour in chicago!! (fob with my whole squad 💪)
