Neighbors - Dragons, Fog Critters, and One Pond Boy (cw: spirits eating other spirits)
Name: Pygmy Rhal Dragons (smaller version of their bigger cousins)
Spirit Type: Dragon/Insect
Appearance: Palm-sized green western dragon with butterfly wings.
Date: May 2017 - August 2017
Location: San Francisco, CA
Known Habitat: Flowering shrubs and bushes.
Diet: Sugary drinks such as honey, juice, soda, nectar. In lean years, swarms will attack and drain other entities of their fluids to the point of desiccation.
Encounter: A colony lives next to my home in two flowering trees. They call themselves “the swarm of Smoked Honey.” Since my roommate always grills outside and they find the smell and food to be delicious.
The little critters often go inside my kitchen to drink delicious juice and honey, in return for them guarding my place. They enjoy watching the sunset with me, flying in a swarm cloud as I go for walks, and inhaling the scented vapor from my boyfriend’s vape pen. Incense is also a favorite of theirs.
The swarm grew up in a nearby park and moved next to my house after they become adults. But they still visit their mother swarm.
My companion was horrified when he found out they desiccate spirits of body fluids in bad years. Proceeded to lecture them to make sure they dont target my household.
I assume like their bigger cousins, they have a caterpillar and pupae state.
(As a side note: physical butterflies also will drink body fluids so their behavior doesn’t surprise me. Source.)

Name: Fog Serpent + Mist Elf Rider
Spirit Type: Fog-based/Elemental. Serpent/Elf?
Appearance: The Fog Serpent is wispy and white, like plumes of mist in a serpent shape. Very ghostly looking. The Mist Elf looked similar but in a humanoid shape. Silvery skin, hair, eyes. Opalescent/vaguely see through. It had pointed ears, a hooded jacket, pants and a gas mask on. Long ears, like eight inches?
Date: Late July 2017.
Location: Pacifica, CA.
Known Habitat: California. For Mist Elves; Misty/Foggy coasts and redwood forests. Central Valley when its not polluted. Visits cities and the valley when the fog rolls in. Mist Elves need clean air, otherwise they need to wear a filter. Kern Basin Wildlife Preserve. Haven’t seen enough fog serpents to know where they live, but I think they are native to the bay area.
Diet: Clean mist and fog, with the life force/oxygen drawn from plants.
Encounter: My boyfriend and I were driving through Pacifica, CA to drop off some friends on the way back from California Extreme. It was extremely misty. Tentacle Cat, my cat sidhe friend, was with us. He has friends in the area and they caught his scent and decided to land in our car. The elf rides the fog serpent as a sapient steed.
I’ve also encountered mist elves before and hung out with one a few months ago. She was riding a feathered raptor as a steed, next to the amtrak train. (Yes, like the dinosaur). And enjoyed sitting in fountains and getting refreshed in the fountain. Since her kind need water to keep their form intact. They can turn into mist as well.)
Sources: @rider-waite whose met both mist elves and raptor spirits before and my companion tentacle cat.

Name: Plateback Drake
Spirit Type: Solar-powered/Drake
Appearance: Khaki/olive colored drake with yellow/brown stegosaurus-like plates on their back that can flatten or raise up into ridges.
Date: August 1, 2017
Location: San Francisco, CA
Known Habitat: Coastal Scrub/Prairie
Diet: The plates absorb sunlight. Meat-eaters.
Encounter: A mother and child pair decided to amble into my kitchen. The mother lives in a nearby marsh surrounded by coastal prairie/scrub. She’s a local guardian/territorial against anything that disturbs the peace in her turf. One of my companions was harassing me the next day and she pulled him off me with her teeth. Two nights ago, she was in my front yard curled up next to her kid and was like “I came here to rest in peace, not be harassed.”
