Mitch Pileggi has a career that would be anyone's envy. He sat down with Looper to discuss his run on "Walker" and the meeting that changed
"Most of all, was [that] I met Jared Padalecki. The day that I met Jared Padalecki was a very important day in my life because he is one of the most outstanding individuals that I've ever come across, and I've come across a lot of people in my 70 years."
the fact that I a hundred percent agree with this assessment of a cis het tall white male from TEXAS really says a lot about Jared Padalecki. Listen, I don't like Chuck Norris with his racist, toxic masculinity schtick. Like no. The only idea of Texas I had in my head about Texas before this show was racist, redneck, arrogant, bullies.
Nevertheless, I said I was gonna give his goddamn show ONE (1) episode watch, because I like Jared and I want him to succeed even though I thought the whole venture ill advised.
One episode was all it took for me to understand that, "whoa, wait a minute. this show is not only only good, I just might be the target audience!"
Inclusivity isn't only about the number of POC in a show. It's about the way stories are told so that a broad spectrum of people can relate. It's about changing the narrative so to shine a light on societal ills in a way that the perpetrators can get a new perspective, can think anew and go like, 'hmm, maybe I'm NOT the good guy.'
Jared did that shit.
So my stanning of him isn't about ships (hell, he and Jensen can never speak to each other again, I'd be fine - although I still WILL read the fanfic because y'all are exceptional writers), its about a truly exceptional person making a real difference in the world, in his own small (large) way.
It's about supporting goodness.
