~ A face rose from the smoke stating, “choose your path.” ~ This was created for “Folk Tale Week” 2019. The day 4 prompt is “smoke”. I am behind in posting but catching up on my art postings. :) The idea for the art was inspired by the phrase “smoke and mirrors” with Harry Potter and Wizard of Oz. In many of the HP books, there is a lot of running around corridors with challenges involve novel thinking about a problem. In this one, the choice at first appears to be a corridor to the right or left. However, gazing into the mirror surface of the cauldron is an open shining door, but you have to be willing to jump with full belief. The dilemma is also “Wizard of Oz” inspired. When Dorothy faces the smoke and mirrors of the great and terrible Oz in the throne room, she discovers that there is an alternative truth in finding the man hiding behind the curtain creating a show of smoke and mirrors. Art was created using watercolor pencils on waterboard board. After the initial drawing, the image was painted in to soften the pencil. Further color washes were applied with watercolor to add more depth.
