Folktale Week — Day 1: NIGHT

Today I bring a Rusalka, rising from a dark, still lake under the full moon. Her hair blends with the water as if she were woven from the night itself, and the sky around her shimmers with golden constellations. ✨🌙

In Slavic and Russian folklore, rusalki are water spirits — sometimes enchanting, sometimes dangerous, always deeply tied to rivers, lakes, and the mysteries of the night. They are guardians of the waters, symbols of beauty, sorrow, and untamed nature.

I wanted to capture that quiet, eerie magic: the moment when the surface breaks and something ancient looks back at you. 💫

Night: La Caccia Morta!

The Caccia Morta or Wild Hunt is a popular legend in Europe, and specifically in the area of Bergamo in Northern Italy. You've already seen it in the Witcher, and the Caccia morta is similar. Legend has it that at certain hours of the night, dogs could be heard roaming the mountains, as if engaged in a chase, barking furiously in the darkness, with their hellish voices and the loud clanking of chains.
