Hey #dreamers ... it'sSunday Soliloquy time... a weekly glimpse into my writing process and my "why." For me, working on the Wood Witch's Daughter and participating in NaNoWriMo this year was never "just" about writing a novel. For me, it was about reclaiming my identity, recovering a sense of self, and remembering how to be that purple haired, free spirited, creative introvert who is comfortable disappearing into her own little world for hours... without guilt and fear of judgement. Without worrying that I'm not living up to someone else's expectations for me. You see, I have alwaye been a chameleon, slipping easily into whatever role is required of me in life. Sometime in my 20s, pressure to become "a professional" to start "a career" to become "respectable" was applied hard enough that I became a person who made these things my priorities. I started working in finance, I wrote emails instead of short stories, built excel spreadsheets instead of worlds. I became blonde bob in corporate casual attire. Thing is, that skin, which I wore for too long, has never really been my own. The only time I have ever felt fully comfortable with my identity is when I write, actively and often. I only feel free when I use my writing to push back against the very same systems that are holding me down and strangling my words. So here I am, one and a half months and 80k words later... with Arianette and Muírgan by my side, who are both trying to topple oppressive systems, who are both trying to rediscover themselves and reclaim what it is theirs. And I finally feel like I can breathe again. I'll be posting chapter 2 of the Wood Witch's Daughter tonight on my Patreon. I hope some of you get a chance to read it and be part of my process.
