SCRIPTURE:
This act was sinful. The people went to worship before the one calf at Bethel and before the other one as far as Dan. ~ 1 Kings 12:30
OBSERVATION:
I s'pose most of what I would describe as being distracted is really, at the heart of it all, plainly and simply, old-fashioned/new-fangled disobedience...
...selfishness...
...my willfulness ahead of His will-for-me-ness...
...my willingness to go out of my way sometimes - making excuses for what I want when I know better...
...going along with crowd "to worship the one calf at Bethel and before the other one as far as Dan..."
In short - sinfulness...
...instead of thankful obedience...
...my "FOMO" - Fear Of Missing Out instead of a Fear Of Missing It All (FOMIA?)...
...or more rightly, a Fear Of Missing Him!
APPLICATION:
Consider my acts...
...my actions...
...my distractions...
...the crowd I might follow...
...my fear of missing...???
PRAYER:
Patient Father God - Thank You for Your Word that reminds - re-teaches - me that anything not before You first, not seeking to fit into Your will for my life - is disobedience and therefor sinful - I ask Your forgiveness for brushing it off as distractedness or accidental instead of facing up to the willfulness and stubbornness of wanting things my way - of fearing missing out on what I assume will be better - even while knowing that You have blessed me and given me more than I will know this side of heaven... Thank You for Your Son Who makes it possible for me to come before You in confession and praise and to live forgiven and fearless in Your grace and mercy... In His Name and for Your glory...
Above and beyond my fears - because of Him...
