Screw fondant; use Starburst!
DIY fondant
Marshmallow fondant (super easy but I've read that it's very sticky... and you need to have marshmallows in the house):
marshmallows (which are basically just gelatin, sugar and corn starch)
icing sugar (which is just sugar and corn starch)
water
Rolled buttercream fondant (supposedly very greasy and soft or crumbly):
light corn syrup
shortening
salt
clear vanilla extract (I did not know that such a think existed!)
confectioners' sugar (i.e. sugar + corn starch)
Gelatin fondant:
whole milk or cream
unflavored gelatin
(light) corn syrup (I bought a bottle of this once several years ago and it sat in cupboard for so long that when I moved I just threw it out. I don't know if it's worth buying just in case I might want to make fondant someday. Then again, I'd feel kind of uncomfortable using honey instead, because it's so damn expensive.)
SALTED butter
glycerin (or vegetable oil or more corn syrup or honey?) (Seriously, where the fuck am I going to buy glycerin? And what the hell else would I use it for? According to Wikipedia it serves as a humectant and a sweetener, but honey does both of those things too.)
vanilla extract
butter flavoring (optional)
lemon juice powder (optional)
powdered sugar (i.e. sugar and corn starch)
salt
What I have in the house right now:
1 marshmallow
Jello (orange, lemon, cherry, and lime) (basically just gelatin, sugar, flavouring and food colouring)
sugar
corn starch
icing sugar
water
creamed honey
molasses
lard
butter
salt
vanilla
whole milk
canola oil
I am quite confident that it is possible to make fondant with what I have. The question is, in what proportions? That first recipe is basically gelatin, sugar, corn starch, more sugar and more corn starch. Jello is gelatin and sugar. Corn starch is corn starch. And I have icing sugar. So I could try mixing Jello, water, corn starch and icing sugar together... with maybe some honey and butter? And vanilla for flavour if it doesn't make it too dark...
OK, here's my plan (adapted from the gelatin fondant recipe at Eat Now, Cry Later):
In a large glass bowl, mix 1 packet of Jello with 1/2 cup boiling water. Stir until dissolved.
Add 1/2 cup honey. Stir until dissolved. (Might need to be heated?)
Add 86 g butter. Stir until melted. (Might need to be heated?)
Add 1/2 tsp vanilla.
Allow mixture to cool to lukewarm.
Add 1 lb icing sugar and stir.
Gradually add more icing sugar until it reaches a dough-like consistency (about 1 lb?).
Spread lard on counter and sprinkle with corn starch. Rub lard all over hands.
Dump dough onto counter. Work it into a smooth round ball. It will be slightly soft and you may use additional powdered sugar (or corn starch) AS NEEDED to form your ball. Divide ball into two balls.
Coat two large pieces of saran wrap with lard.
Wrap the balls well in the greased saran wrap. Place in an airtight container.
Allow to sit on the counter overnight.
When needed, knead however much you intend to use. Can be stored at room temp for a month!
Hmm, I wonder if I can come up with a recipe that doesn't need to sit overnight.
