New York Crater factions (so far)
Children of Atom - The Children of Atom have made their ways north to the Eastern Commonwealth, and have a firm foothold on parts of Brooklyn, NYC. The Children of Atom of New York are a peaceful, scientific community focused on community-building and education of nuclear science, very much akin to the Followers of the Apocalypse. They take hold in highly irradiated areas, and former strongholds of pre-war technology, in hopes of studying both. Their titles remain (Mother, Confessor, etc.) but are largely social constructs, and have little bearing on the actual power structures of their communities. They’re highly respected religious leaders. Hydroponics and nuclear fusion are some of the Children’s top projects in the wastes. Amongst the Children, religion and science are believed to be inseparable, even and especially where they may challenge one another.
Metropolis - The Manhattan underground metro system, in which hundreds of thousands of people took refuge when the bombs fell. Metropolis is entirely underground, with its capital in Grand Central Terminal. Its official name and statement of sovereignty were declared in January of 2090, and Metropolis touts itself as “the oldest surviving piece of New York.” The Old Penn Station Post Office acts as a sort of embassy above ground.
The Empire Building - The Empire State Building is one of the only skyscrapers to remain standing in midtown Manhattan, and is now by far the tallest landmark on the horizon. The entire tower is occupied by surviving New Yorkers, but was started by some of the first Ghouls on the east coast as a science center sometime in the early 22nd century. The Empire Building, ironically named, acts as New York’s official politically neutral ground; not only are intergovernmental and civilian meetings held in the building, but all research and development within is strictly opensource.
Borough Hall (names in progress) - The capital of the Brooklyn subway alliance, a group of underground communities that keep the peace in northern Brooklyn. Legally distinct from Metropolis, the Brooklyn subway communities have always been proud of their ability to sustain themselves without annexation.
The Rat Pack - A loose coalition of mafia families operating mostly out of southern Manhattan, the Rat Pack may seem small or inconsequential, but behind closed doors they have their hands in almost everything that goes on within city limits.
The Archives - A group of New Yorkers dedicated to the collection and recording of any and all pre-war information, especially information of cultural significance to the city. Their headquarters is in the Empire Building, where leagues of... mostly correct history can be accessed.
