I wanna do a character analysis for my own characters, but that might spoil a lot of things that I have kept hidden...
So I'm gonna analyze Kinger instead!
He's very wise, at least when his mind is clear and when he is actually present, and we know that he had a wife, so I wouldn't be surprised if he had children in real life. He might even see the other characters as his newer children, like maybe not entirely, but the fatherly love/care/worry is there. That's why so much of the audience that I've seen love him; he's a father figure in the circus. It might even be that the first abstraction WAS his child and THAT is why he remembers even while in the light!
We can all agree that Caine definitely did something to make Kinger be how he is, but I don't think it's insanity. That would be much different. He just isn't able to be truly present while in the light, the only reason he can be in the dark is because it brings him back to being with his wife. That's why he likes the pillow fort so much. We can see in the newest episode that he definitely IS present while in the fort, so he might use that time to be able to remember his wife, his friends, everything, to make sure that he doesn't truly lose his sanity or abstract.
Jax was trying to distance himself when he is close to abstraction, but Kinger doesn't. Yes, he likes to hide in the dark, but he still interacts with the others in the circus and doesn't make it feel like it's a chore whenever someone comes to talk to him or include him in the adventures. That's the difference between them. That's how I know that Kinger won't abstract. He still retains his humanity and his love and care for the people around him. I think that yes, Caine messing with people's minds helps with driving them to abstraction, but I believe that it's their loss of humanity and ability to love that causes it. Because, like I said, he ABSOLUTELY did something to Kinger, but our guy is still here, right? He hasn't abstracted because he's still able to care and properly feel and just be human. Even if that requires being in the dark. He's still there. He's still conscious. And he's still human.
