 “of course we do,” Greer agreed. She sat on the windows edge in Mary’s rooms, her hands wrapped around the luxurious pillows. It seemed that so much had happened to them lately, and with the King going mad it wasn’t easy at court. It seemed that Kenna had been the Lady who the King tried to prey on. Being in the same room as him made Greer uncomfortable, and it was worse when she could do nothing to make his Leers vanish. “We shall always love each other--until the end,” she vowed and held her hand open to her friend,. Her family.

  Greer would have traded all her silver, gold, and fine dresses to make it stop. She’d be happy as a kitchen maid in love with Leith if she could take it away. “Don’t tell Mary or Lola, but I’m frightened...” she trailed off. “ there is so much uncertainty here and my father has grown impatient. I don’t want any of us to leave each other,” she enunciated as her voice was growing hoarse.
