“BREATHE, REY.” Anakin’s voice is calm and quiet as he sits, cross-legged atop the fallen body of an AT-AT walker, half-buried in the Jakku sands. “ close your eyes, and reach out with your feelings. feel what you can on a physical level, like the wind. then go further. feel the energy all around, above, and beneath you. ”
It’s ironic. Meditation was never his strong suit as a Jedi, and yet he became quite dependent on it in his years as Palpatine’s apprentice to keep his head clear, to keep from losing himself.
Now, it’s simple and comforting to settle into the Force, disturbed as it remains. He’s been here for two weeks (admittedly, much longer than he had any desire to remain on another desolate desert planet), and the last dregs of hibernation sickness seemed to have worn off. He’s spent much time in meditation since then, taking note of the ebb and flow, the ripples in the Force. Thirty years since the fall of the Empire, and yet a great darkness remained-- this worried Anakin. Did that mean that Palpatine’s contingency plan had somehow worked?
But the galaxy would have to wait, for now, Anakin had a job to do here.
It had taken only a little more than a day for him to recover from hibernation sickness, but longer to adapt to the changes in the Force. And Rey had been there. The girl had found him in the wreckage of a Star Destroyer and freed him from his carbonite prison, and Anakin had remained with her-- how could he not? She was all alone here, left behind by her parents years ago. Instantly, she’d found a place in his heart. Once he’d adjusted to the Force, he realised quickly how strong she was, how much untapped power she held within her. And the rest was history-- as far as Anakin was concerned, Rey was his padawan now.
Today, though, was the first time he’d invited her to join him in his meditation. “ if you can’t feel anything right away, that’s alright. just be patient. if you trust it, the force will guide you. ”
