Yesterday was definitely a big day, waking up at 4 am, and realizing I didn't actually have change for the bus. I had a moment of crisis deciding whether to drive and park at the airport or cab it over there. I ultimately decided to cab it since I would get reimbursed anyways, which is what we've been doing since we got here. There are a lot of interesting characters who drive taxis in Miami: the Brazilian, John who "likes old music, makes life simple by smiling so that he stays happy (that's what you can do for people), and does not go to church because it's too loud." Most of the drivers here are actually not very friendly, but we did have a nice female cab driver this morning.
I've been taking pics of palm trees because I haven't seen any in five years and am nerding out because it's my first time here! It's kind of funny to see patios with Christmas trees but no snow, and to be eating outside in the middle of December! They had a great three for one deal on beers, and I took advantage to try "Refajo," a beer mix with Colombian soda. Our waitress was super nice and Colombiana, so she was trying to explain it to me and let me switch my order before she served us. Then a coworker and I swapped beers for our second round, (it's supposed to be the same person ordering the same beer), and the waitress was awesome and said we could do that. It was also another coworker's birthday, so she got treated to a couple lemon drops!
In all, it was a pretty good night, and I took advantage of the pool and the fitness room when I got back. The pool was a little chilly at first, but I had the whole thing to myself and took some long laps. And I've decided to get back to working out every day, because I've been gaining vacation weight already, and it's not even Xmas! But I will be participating in the cookie exchange/potluck coming up next week :)
