Claire had lifted him up and yanked him under the shower; steam flew into the air while the cold water killed the flames. Daniel heard soft cries and opened his eyes to see Claire, cowering under his arms, covered in severe scalds. Her hair was strongly singed; she looked like she had just been pulled out from a house fire. He’d done this to her when she was just trying to help.
“I’m so sorry,” he backed away from her. Fearing what he’d done and what other harm he could cause.
“Don’t, stay,” she choked her words out and reached for him.
