Foreign Language Tattoos Ideas
Every generation had habits and interests that were displeasing to their parents and grandparents. Even if the habits weren’t bad, they failed to satisfy the elders. It isn’t anyone’s fault it is just how things have always been. Elders have always looked at the youngsters with a look of dislike. Maybe the dislike is out of genuine concern or because they resent them for having fun when they can’t anymore. In either case, it isn’t something that should keep people from living life to the fullest. If you want to get a pet, you should get a pet even if someone tells you pets are gross and will make a mess at your place. There are many things that we do in life not only because we want to but to experience freedom of getting to do things exactly how we want. Some go on a cross country trip because it is scary and not something their parents would gladly approve of. For some the rebellion is simple, it is cutting the hair very short or getting them dyed in a bright color. Whatever way we choose to express our freedom and rebel against the society that is always trying to bring us down, is up to us. But once we do decide on something, it must be done in a proper way. If you want to go cross country, then you must research before leaving, pack the right essentials, and keep enough money with you. If you want to get a haircut, find one that will go well with your face’s shape or one that is in fashion, not the one from 1920s. Getting your hair dyed may sound exciting but it can go horribly wrong if you don’t go to a specialist and try to get a cheap color. Your hair is important, you shouldn’t be gambling when it comes to them.
Why People Get Tattoos?
Another way some people express their freedom is by getting things tattooed on their skin. Tattoos are not only a way of rebelling against the society that tells you they will look stupid in your old age, but also a way of expressing your love for something. Some people get their significant other’s name tattooed on their arms, others go for their favorite fictional characters, either way, they prove to be an important method of making a statement. They are a good way to save something in memory forever.
Tattoo Ideas:
There are hundreds of options for those who want to get tattoos. Depending on the choice of a person, they can either go for something big or a minimalistic design. Those who prefer the latter look for words and small signs that can express a lot in a little space. Such tattoos don’t cover a lot of space, look neat and cute, and also leave room for more. Another thing about them is you can get creative with them. Whether it is a foreign language word or a sign that means something extraordinary, the minimalistic markings are just simply amazing. When it comes to foreign language tattoos, the options are too many but if you don’t research the thing beforehand, you can very well end up with something that means completely different than what you think it means. Latin and French make for great small tattoos because they have plenty of words and phrases with deep meanings. You can definitely choose any language to go with as long as you are one hundred percent sure of the meaning and not getting tricked by your friends. Here are some foreign language tattoo ideas that are too good to ignore: Intrepide: This French word means fearless and would make a beautiful minimalistic design on your wrist. The meaning may make it sound like a cliché but at least it is not C’est la vie. Also, there is something special about getting the word fearless tattooed on yourself. You can look at it whenever you feel run down to remind you that you are stronger than your problems. In Omnia Paratus: This Latin phrase means ready for anything and looking at it will give you strength whenever you feel like you are not ready for another challenge, another day, or another breath. Latin has way too many good tattoo ideas and anyone who loves to get their skin inked should have at least one Latin word or phrase tattooed on their body. Veritas Lux Mea: If truth is your light then you need to get this Latin phrase inked on your body because that’s exactly what it means. You can’t go wrong with this one when truth is on your side.
Best Tattoo Language Fonts to Use:
The fonts you use will depend on the language you have picked for the tattoos. When it comes to Latin, Kaligraf Latin and Uncial Fonts are some great options. They will give the ink that ancient look which will prove befitting for Latin. If you don’t want to go for something edgy, you can choose the typewriter font. It will complement your minimalistic aesthetic and look neat on your skin. And if nothing else works, you can always fall back on the Times New Roman. This evergreen font will never disappoint you. Even if you never liked it in Microsoft Word, there is something about seeing the straight lines on your skin that will make you understand its appeal. Now that you have quotes and fonts suggestions, you can get your skin inked and show off your new tattoo to your friends proudly. Read the full article

Qik, do something!
So, I have been playing around with a pretty cool little app, called Qik. Usually I hate things that use cleverly misspelled words as their name, but this one is cool enough to forgive. It is a free application in which users can create videos using their phone and share those videos in a variety of ways, participate in a video chat, or send a video message. The app is easy to use. You first just need to come up with a user name and password, like every other app! Once it is installed, you will see a screen like the one below. I have switched cameras so the phone is recording me instead of what is in front of me by tapping the button in the top right of the screen that looks like a camera with rotating arrows around it. To record a video, you simply press the red "record" button at the bottom of the screen. If you want to live stream your video, just make sure that the "live" button in the upper left corner is switched on. When you stream live, your viewers simply need to go to the website qik.com/yourusername to watch your video in real time. All the videos that you make (as long as you don't make them private) will be archived at this site.
After you have finished your recording, you will be led to a screen (seen in the two pictures below) in which you can choose what you want to do with the video.
As you can see, there are many options for sharing your video. If you would rather use Qik to video chat with someone, just press "connect", and then "contacts", where you will see your list of contacts that have Qik service. You can then press the name of the person you want to chat with and a video chat will begin shortly.
I can imagine several innovative uses for Qik in a school community:
Live stream important meetings (PTA, SIT, awards ceremonies, performances, School Board meetings, etc....) so that students, parents and faculty members can attend virtually.
Send video messages of important announcements via email or text.
Post any of those videos on the school's Facebook account or Twitter feed.
I am also excited about the potential that Qik has for individual foreign language classrooms:
Live stream lectures or other class activities for home-bound students.
Post a video to the class Twitter feed, blog etc..., as a conversation starter. Students must comment on the video in the target language.
Send videos to students via text or email as writing prompts. They must write a reflection or response to the video in the target language.
Ask students to create their own videos , either alone or as a group, utilizing specific grammar or vocabulary. Assess videos using a rubric that looks at accuracy, fluency, and creativity.
Record skits, role-plays, games, etc...and share with parents so that they can see just what we do in a foreign language class!
Ask students to video chat with others in the target language, using various prompts and scenarios.
I wish I was teaching right now, because I would go into school tomorrow and try this baby out!
