No, it’s his face. I think TVD took a lesson from PLL of how-not-to-do-flashbacks and did exactly that.
i think it's just overall. i don't know. for me it's the hair and the suit because it reminds me of slappy from goosebumps. if he had a little red bow tie the visual would be complete. he even has green eyes.
but the face too, yeah.
