Many shows I’ve loved have been canceled after one or two seasons even with fan bases that were dedicated to watching.
It appears everyone they blame production costs and lower viewership, but a problem that would solve the viewership issue often times is they never keep a proper schedule of when they’re airing new episodes along with not telling people when the season will resume.
This has been a big issue with basic tv series I’ve loved and I see it still when trying to watch CBS Ghosts.
I thought three times at least it was returning after Christmas on different dates in February and then assumed it was going to be March only to find out it was in fact in February!
Reason for my confusion? We don’t get solid timelines. We get the ‘returning soon or next year’ but no date. I then kept checking online with no details and even looked on tv schedules and got false dates that way until they finally aired an ad. I don’t watch CBS except for Ghosts and one other show so I wouldn’t have seen this ad if my parents hadn’t been watching something on CBS.
The other issue has been more then once bad timing from companies causing the people to go on strike. Be it actors or writers, since they don’t wish to give the talented people what they are owed, shows get delayed or paused and then it affects the outcome of the show or a drop in viewership as no one knows when it will return.
One of the latest causes for affecting a show was the Pandemic that paused filming and did actually changing production and writing as well. That for a time affected safety and costs.
These I find are the biggest killers of the shows I’ve loved.
They fully admit there are fanbases and other signs the shows are still being watched and worth the time, but they get greedy and cut the lines before pulling in the prize.
My major favorites being:
The Invisible Man (syfy): con’s scientist brother working for government get him out of jail to test experimental biosynthetic device that turns people invisible. Ends up having to work for government after brother is killed to find killer as well as stay sane from side effects installed by the killer into the device.
Moonlight (CBS): Vampire has messy marriage ending in messy divorce after wife turns him into a vampire. Becomes a PI, saves girl his ex kidnaps, who later grows up and becomes an online reporter and they met again investigating a murder. Secrets come to light.
Dracula (NBC): Dracula looks for way to walk in the sunlight while getting revenge on the group that ruined his life centuries ago while finding the reincarnation of his late love.
FOREVER (ABC now owned by CBS after airing): over 200 year old British Sherlockian like Doctor tries to find out why he can not stay dead and how to cure it while working with police to solve murders as a medical examiner and keeping his secret.
Prodigal Son (FOX): Son of famous serial murder becomes FBI Profiler, gets fried, returns home to help NYP as profiler and solve secrets from his past involving his father. Tries to stay sane while also suffering trauma and making visits to see his father and while working with him and his family solving murders.
