I recently picked up this great looking hawk made by my good Friend Shane Dent (Bones61on the knife forums ) a Cornish bowie maker .

He forged the hawk head from spring steel and fitted the hickory shaft.

I started off by etching the head in ferric chloride to reveal the temper lines , then dyed the hickory with leather dye before rubbing it back with wire wool .

Dyed natural braided sinew was then wrapped around the haft for grip and a hammered copper lanyard hole fitted made from old Victorian era copper pipe  .

I've till got a leather mask to make for it but haven't decided how far to take it yet either full on Mountain Man style or just leave as is more of a trade piece .
