Derek should have known. Klaus had already told him that he was a hybrid which mean he could do a lot of the things that he could do. He nodded in response, looking over at the person who was sprawled out onto the floor. “So what did they do to piss you off?” He asked, not bothering to check on them. “You’re usually pretty calm and collected. Didn’t think anyone really got under your skin.”

          harvey  had  done  his  share  of  mourning  for  his  brother  over  the  years,  never  quite  recovering  from  it.     after  all,  he  had  been  the  one  to  finally  put  him  to  rest.     while  it  hadn’t  actually  been  tommy,  it  looked  enough  like  him  to  scar  the  boy  for  life.     but  after  four  years  in  everly  and  reuniting  with  sabrina,  he  finally  felt  okay  enough  to  say  he  was  moving  on.     so,  why,  then,  was  his  older  brother  standing  in  his  dorm  hall.     he  was  seeing  things;  that  had  to  be  it.     no  —  his  imagination  had  never  been  able  to  conjure  something  this  good.     this  was  a  living,  breathing  human  being,  and  it  was  tommy  kinkle.     harvey  dropped  the  books  in  his  hands,  his  pencils  clattering  across  the  floor.     his  mind  was  having  a  hard  time  wrapping  around  what  exactly  was  happening.     people  don’t  just  come  back  from  the  dead,  so  this  had  to  be  some  kind  of  prank  or  —  magic.

Derek squinted at Klaus. It wasn’t like he didn’t know Klaus was different. There were signs he was something else and Derek had refused to acknowledge his own tendencies. He had only confessed to Carol and Kara about what was wrong with him. The rest of the school didn’t need to know and yet the hybrid was here trying to get the words out of him. “So do you drink blood and then rip them apart?” He thought that’s all vampires and werewolves did. “Did you kill a student in the stairway? Was that your doing?” He remembered the blood at the crime scene. “If so how did you get them to turn into ash?”

Derek could already feel his patience running thin. Why had he agreed to teach? Maybe because he felt like it would be a good distraction but it seemed that wasn’t the case. Most people got on his nerves, students were no different. Turning around to look at Klaus, he squinted, wondering if the man just liked to push his buttons for the hell of it. “I didn’t say that I hate all students, just most of them,” he said with a shrug, trying to keep his focus on just talking rather than any annoyance he was feeling. “Being a teacher here isn’t easy. I find that I can’t answer a question without glaring slightly. Maybe I’m wrong to assume everyone should already know everything, but I really don’t think it’s asking too much for students to do the damn readings.”

it was an understatement to claim the last handful of months had been full of stress and misery. both of them were overcome by grief but clothilde’s anger had nothing to seep into, her husband on the other hand had been preoccupied with the thought of impending war. the paranoia the ensued had been understandable, none the less frustrating however. safety was what kept the duchess in france for longer than the rest of her family with the exception of adelaise who had been glued to her side since jacques untimely passing. 

switzerland was much duller than she expected, however given recent circumstances if she was kind enough --- it all could’ve been blamed on a little death though clothilde wasn’t known to be that optimistic. they had not arrived long before she had gone searching, six year old daughter clutching her hand in a vice grip while they shimmied through people pausing to greet a few familiar faces before finding him. it had only been a handful of weeks but it had felt like an eternity. “ hello darling, “

He could feel her staring. It was pretty obvious in the small library. Not many students were there in the summer which made it more peaceful until she showed up. He wasn’t going to say anything at all until he caught her eyes, knowing now that she really was staring at him. “Something you need, Harvelle?” He asked, closing his book with a snap. “Or am I just that good looking that you can’t keep your gaze off of me?” A challenge, his jaw set and ready for whatever she had up her sleeve.

Work was winding down, and though there weren’t too many people left at May’s Corner Terra wouldn’t feel right leaving the other to handle the rest. With how this place was they’d get a rush of customers as soon as she walked out the door.

      “I’ll stay for a little longer. Help you hold down the fort and all.”
