Let's see what this one looked like on the outside!!
Located out in the country in a secluded area sitting on 28 acres of land, yet still close enough to the city to get all of your daily needs, sits this abandoned raised bungalow. Built with stone and wood, I imagine this place would have been a great place to live away from everything. As I walked down the overgrown driveway and approached the home, it was obvious that the house had been abandoned for a number of years. The stonework and woodwork evident as soon as the building came into view, it was partially surrounded by a wraparound deck that was weathered, worn and no longer safe to use.
Once inside I was absolutely blown away by the workmanship of the home, there was stonework everywhere from the fireplace to the archway and even the the framing around the large canvas painting. What wasn't stone was made out of wonderfully coloured stained wood. With thick solid beams along the roofline and even an unprocessed tree that still had the grooves left by the bugs that had once called it home. There were fancy one of a kind light fixtures as well as custom designed taps and a very large main bathroom. I found a calendar on the wall as well as canned goods in the cupboards, with dates ranging from 2009-2019 but given the amount of decay, I think this one has been abandoned for somewhere between 5-10 years.
This was once somebody's dream home that I am sure cost a ton of money to build but I would imagine it was worth every penny. Custom homes like this are one of a kind and I don't doubt that in today's market, it would cost an absolute fortune to build, especially give the volatile lumber prices of late.
I am sad to say that during my research on this location that it was demolished not long after my visit, it's not surprising because it needed a lot of work but at the same time, it's a shame to destroy such an incredible house!

I actually came away with a lot more photos from this location than I had thought! So I am breaking this one down into four separate posts. In today's set we take a look at the ground floor of this amazing time capsule!!
Driving through the backroads you may one day come across this abandoned farmhouse with everything left behind. It's a time capsule with what looks to have a lot of its decor that originated in the 60s and 70s. There are old television sets, lamps that most people would look at and think they are hideous (however I quite like them), a radio cabinet which seemed to be quite popular back in the day, an old Lockwell mannequin bust and of course lots of solid wood furniture.
I was not able to find much information about the owners, other than the obvious, that they were farmers, I believe someone in the household was a nurse given nursing magazines found inside one of the bedrooms. They seemed to have a variety of hobbies and interests as I found, hunting, fishing, machine/metalworking and even handgun magazines.
The home is quite colourful with purples, blues and pinks in the bedrooms, green was also a favourite colour of the owners with a large chunk of the home painted in a minty/spring grass colour.
I don't know when this home was abandoned but the only date I know of found here was from 2005 on a jar of Acetaminophen which would mean it has probably been sitting for about 15 years. That's a long time and it shows in the decay of the home through peeling paint, an overgrown driveway and greenery that completely surrounds the home. The basement is also in very rough shape with the walls giving way and in some cases, completely collapsed!!

Christmas Time Capsule

For the first post from this location let's look at what the exterior of this home had to offer!!
Called the Christmas Time Capsule for very good reason, this home was left in an untouched state for years and remained so until after it was first discovered. The house was filled with furniture, personal belongings, photos covering the walls, oh and of course Christmas decorations, lots and lots of decorations. Unfortunately time has not been kind to this "time capsule", vandals had discovered the home since the first explorers visited and tossed belongings everywhere, stolen items, put holes and even wrote graffiti on the walls. Despite all the destruction it was still a very interesting explore!
Having done a little bit of research I found out that the woman who lived here died in 2001 and her husband had died 9 years earlier. Does this mean that the home has been sitting abandoned for 20 years? I don't think so, I also found two calendars in the home dating back to 2011 and 2012 and I would imagine that's how long this home has been sitting. This leaves a gap of about 11 years where someone else was living in the home, maybe it was one of the children or some other relative, we may never have the answer to this. One thing that we know for sure is that the last occupants definitely liked Christmas and it is likely that the home was abandoned around that time. A few years ago the property was sold for tax arears which leads one to believe that the last occupant may have been having financial problems.
The home is now starting to show signs of mold growing in the kitchen and the basement but there seems to be a relatively new roof and the outside of the home was also updated with vinyl siding, if the property continues to sit, it could be a very long time before the home begins to decay naturally. If it weren't for the overgrown and unkept yard passersby would have no idea that this house is even sitting abandoned, that's how good it looks from the road. Only time will tell what happens to this property from this point onward.

And finally, today we will be taking a look at the ground floor of this abandoned house!
Sitting on a large parcel of land is this abandoned house that has been left for about two years now. I was not able to find very much information about the home's former occupants, there were names scattered throughout the house but nothing that led to any definitive conclusions. The only thing I do know is that the house was once owned by an Irish family.
The property has since been listed for sale yet again and is classified as vacant land, even though this home still sits partially boarded up. There is also a redevelopment proposal that I assume has already been approved by the city. It details the drawings for a 6 storey 25 unit condominium. This is what could be coming to this chunk of land but it could still change in the future once the land is sold yet again. Either way the fate of the home that sits here has already been decided.
This house was abandoned by the family when the property was sold and for whatever reason, they left everything behind, only taking the clothes on their backs. The house being close to the downtown of a sitting has been rummaged through and is quite a mess. Despite this the home is very colourful and there are so many personal belongings leftover that it made for quite the interesting explore!
