are there any creative writers on here with dyscalculia? I’m writing a character with it and I want to make sure she’s portrayed accurately. she’s 12-13 years old, so if anyone would be willing to help me out, I would be more than willing to listen!

also, the character is part Indian (specifically, her mom is a first-generation American whose parents are from Delhi) so if anyone has any experience with that as well, I would definitely be open to advice and help as I write, given that I don’t know much about that yet either. Her dad is white, particularly Italian, Scottish, and Welsh.

For both I am looking for people with actual lived experience as I just want to make sure that she’s representative of a real-life seventh grade girl :)

Happy Disability Pride Month!

Happy Disability Pride month for everyone! Solidarity for those who cannot have a certain job, because of their disability. I have speaking (rhotacism) and reading (dyscalculia) problems, so I cannot have any job regarding teaching. So to people who suffer like this, I feel you!

I really hope that when I talk about hating math with a passion people can recognize it’s in a “there are strong signs I have dyscalculia it takes me twice as long to finish a math test as my peers” way and NOT in a “I’m just a girl girls can’t do math 🥺” way
